Netflix’s Squid Game cast seems just as shocked by the show’s success as the fans do. And we can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon for the cast in the future. The Squid Game cast came complete with clear antagonists and likable characters right from the start. But a few characters took time to develop. So, who is Sang-woo in Squid Game? Park Hae-soo’s character, Sang-woo, was a childhood friend of the protagonist, Seong Gi-hun. And his decisions throughout the game shocked viewers.

While it seemed like Sang-woo and Gi-hun would help each other through to the end, Sang-woo’s desperation got the better of him. He ended up sacrificing many lives to compete against Gi-hun in the final game, squid game. Ultimately, though, he couldn’t live with what he’d done. He stabbed himself and allowed Gi-hun to win. While the character wouldn’t make it to a Squid Game Season 2, he certainly packed a punch through the entirety of the show.

“While working on the drama, I never felt any differences between Cho Sang-woo and myself,” Park said, according to Soompi. “The choices grew easier as it felt like I wasn’t acting, so it felt strange.” He then noted that working with Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk was also helpful, as Hwang helped bring the character to life.

It seems the Squid Game cast may be open to continuing the story in the future. According to Soompi, Park Hae-soo may be interested in continuing to play Sang-woo even after Sang-woo’s death in season 1.

“He was a character who had to die, which is a shame,” he said, according to Soompi. “Who knows, the director could make a prequel. I hope I could at least appear in Seong Gi-hun’s dream.”

Gi-hun was played by Lee Jung-jae, and while the two went from childhood friends to enemies quickly, it seems Lee helped Park through filming Squid Game. “As a central role, Lee Jung-jae approached us in a comfortable way,” Park noted, according to Soompi. “He’s sort of an ideal for us as actors, so it was an honor to work alongside him. I went to Lee Jung-jae’s house, where we drank wine and conversed a lot. He gave me plenty of advice about acting and where to go from here. I was very glad to work with him.”

So, what does the director have to say about Squid Game Season 2? Unfortunately for hopeful fans, there’s nothing currently in the works for a Squid Game sequel or prequel.

“I don’t have well-developed plans for Squid Game 2,” Hwang Dong-hyuk told Variety. “It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”

With that said, fans are still hopeful something will happen in the future. It seems like the cast would love to reprise their characters, too.
