Nyxly sought two more totems in Supergirl Season 6 Episode 14, and Lena tried to use her witch powers to help the Super Friends find the imp. But, it was clear that Lena was still a little bit uncomfortable using magic. She is a woman of science, after all. But, in the end, the Super Friends were willing to do whatever it took to stop Nyxly. “Magical Thinking” was an intense episode that showed the versatility of the totems, and it evened the playing field between Nyxly and the Super Friends.

Nyxly got the Courage Totem in episode 13

In Supergirl Season 6 Episode 13, Kara and Nyxly fought for control of the Courage Totem. The totem manifested itself into the slingshot that David used to kill Goliath, located in a National City museum. Nyxly got ahold of the totem, but Kara and the Super Friends arrived to take it from her. But Kara accidentally split the totem with her heat vision. Nyxly ended up with half it, and the Super Friends got the other half.

To gain control of the Courage Totem, both Kara and Nyxly had to pass a Gauntlet test. In the test, they had to face the moment where they lacked true courage. Kara’s test sent her back to the day she saved Alex’s plane and became Supergirl. Nyxly’s test brought her back to the day she and her brother got caught trying to overthrow their father.

In the end, Nyxly passed her test by being vulnerable and telling her brother how much he had hurt her. Kara, on the other hand, wasn’t able to pass her test. After chaos ensued in National City due to the split totem, Kara let Nyxly have her half of the Courage Totem. And, somehow, Kara and Nyxly’s trials created a psychic connection between them. This connection came into play in Supergirl Season 6 Episode 14 when Nyxly went after another totem.

William comes to The Tower to do an article on the Super Friends. He wants to tell the world about Nyxly, but Kara does not want him to because she doesn’t want the public to panic.

Lena’s spell backfires and increases the violence in the city. But, it also gives Nyxly an extra burst of humanity when she is about to kill a guard to get the Hope Totem. Kara realizes that they can draw Nyxly out by using Lena’s spell. The Super Friends agree to let William tell his story his way. Lena performs the spell again, and the rest of the Super Friends help calm the violence in the city.
