Thomas Lennon returned as the Fifth-Dimensional imp Mr. Mxyzptlk, or Mxy, in episode 11 of Supergirl Season 6, “Mxy in the Middle.” Lennon’s interpretation of the character has always been fun-spirited and light. That’s where the idea for a musical came in. Unfortunately for Lennon, though, Mxy only sang one song during the latest hour of Supergirl.

Thomas Lennon would have loved to have done a full-blown musical episode

Upon Mxy’s return, the Super Friends wanted to know everything that he knew about his Fifth-Dimensional imp counterpart, Nyxly. So, of course, he put a spin on Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” to tell Nyxly’s backstory.

Thomas Lennon, who plays Mxy in Supergirl, talked to The Wrap about his recent appearance in the show. When asked if he wanted to partake in a musical episode, he said, “It would have been fun. And I will say that, between takes, Melissa and I do a tremendous amount of singing. But no, I know. It’s a shame. It’s a shame that this is a weird solo number, where they also picked weirdly one of the people with, like, probably the least amazing singing voice. But I do make up for it in super, super high kicking. So there is that.”

Mxy’s musical number was definitely on par for his character. But, it also made us want to see more songs from the imp, no matter how tone-deaf he might be.

What happened in ‘Supergirl’ Season 6 Episode 11?

“Mxy in the Middle” started where the previous Supergirl episode left off. Kara summoned Mxy to help her escape Nyxly, but unbeknownst to her, Nyxly had summoned him as well. As it turns out, the two imps have quite the history. He testified against her after Nyxly and her brother were caught trying to unseat their father, the king, from his throne. She was banished to the Phantom Zone, and her brother was let off easy. So, Nyxly was determined to get revenge.

The viewers discovered that Nyxly’s evil plan is to collect all 7 totems that come together to form the AllStone, which would enable her to wield control over everything in the universe. And she needs Mxy to make her plan come together. Since he is the descendent of the imp who created the AllStone, Nyxly has to trap Mxy in her crystal to make it work. That was a lot of information to take in all in one hour, but, hey, at least fans got to see Mxy sing.

Throughout this episode of Supergirl, the Super Friends and Mxy tried to find a way to stop Nyxly. Unfortunately, their plan did not pan out. In the end, Mxy sacrifices himself to save the Super Friends and goes inside of Nyxly’s crystal.

Oh, and also, apparently, Lena is a witch.

What’s next on ‘Supergirl’?

So much was thrown at the audience in episode 11 of Supergirl Season 6 that it’s a wonder how the show will wrap up all their storylines by the time the series finale comes around.

Nyxly is now working with Mitch, the alien trafficker who Brainy and Nia ran into when they traveled to 2009. They will definitely continue Nyxly’s search for the totems to form the AllStone. And Kara and the Super Friends will have to find another way to stop them. Perhaps Lena’s newfound heritage will be the answer to their problems. It’s about time Lena suits up and gets in on the fight.

But, first, fans will finally see Kelly as Guardian in Supergirl Season 6 Episode 12. This episode, “Blind Spots,” was written by Azie Tesfai, the actor who plays Kelly, and features a special appearance by John Diggle, played by David Ramsey. The premise of the episode is “Kelly is horrified when the Ormfell building implodes, injuring many in the community. Kelly embraces her power and fully steps into her role as Guardian.”

Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
