If we know one thing, it’s that Supergirl‘s series finale will be a grand affair featuring many familiar faces. After all, the Super Friends will need some help in defeating the very powerful and evil Fifth-Dimensional imp, aka Nyxly, and her new boyfriend, Lex Luthor. However, one old friend will not make his way back to National City in time for the Supergirl series finale.

Will Mxy be in the ‘Supergirl’ series finale?

According to Thomas Lennon, Mister Mxyzptlk, aka Mxy, will not be reuniting with Kara and the Super Friends any time soon.

Lennon, who plays Mister Mxyzptlk, recently spoke with TheWrap regarding his role in Supergirl Season 6 Episode 11. He discussed whether or not fans should expect to see Mxy again before the Supergirl series finale. Lennon said, “That was my swan song on Supergirl. Until, of course, the probably amazing spinoff Mxy show.”

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 11, “Mxy in the Middle,” was the last time fans will see Mister Mxyzptlk in National City. Of course, Lennon teased that there could be a spinoff featuring his character, but he was most likely joking. Lennon does play a very good Mxy, though, so anything is possible. But the imp will not be one of the returning characters in the Supergirl series finale.

What happened with Mister Mxyzptlk in episode 11?

Mister Mxyzptlk returned in Supergirl Season 6 Episode 11 to help Kara and the Super Friends stop Nyxly. Mxy told the team all about Nyxly’s backstory and why she is the villain that she is today. Nyxly and her brother attempted a coup against their father years ago, but they were caught. Her brother was basically awarded for his bravery, while Nyxly was banished to the Phantom Zone for her betrayal. To summarize what Mxy said, that’s the patriarchy for you. Also, Mxy turned his back on Nyxly and testified against her. Yikes.

Now, Nyxly is determined to retrieve all seven totems that make up the AllStone, which would give her power over everything in the universe. Undoubtedly, she would use the AllStone to exact her revenge on her father. But Nyxly also needed Mxy to complete her plan. To power the AllStone, she needed to trap a descendent of the imp that created it. And the only living descendent is Mister Mxyzptlk.

Throughout the episode, Kara, Mxy, and the Super Friends tried to find a way to stop Nyxly. But, when they couldn’t, Mxy sacrificed himself to save everyone else. He allowed Nyxly to trap him in her crystal. It is unknown whether or not Mxy is still alive in the crystal or not. But if fans ever do find out the imp’s fate, it will be offscreen. Lennon said, “I swear, it seems like I’m being cagey. But I actually don’t know what happens next in the storyline.” It would have been nice to see Thomas Lennon again in the Supergirl series finale, but, at least, there are a few guest stars fans can look forward to.
