Survivor is only one episode into season 42, and fans are already making predictions about who they think is the winner. Over the years, some superfans have spotted what they call a “winner’s edit.” According to them, producers will edit the season’s winner in a specific way from the premiere till the finale because they want viewers to love the Sole Survivor. So, fans believe they have determined who wins Survivor Season 42 based on the premiere.

A recap of the premiere

Eighteen new castaways ventured to Fiji to compete in the Survivor Season 42 premiere with dreams of becoming a winner of the reality competition series. Producers split the contestants into three tribes — Taku, Ika, and Vati. The Taku tribe is made up of Jonathan, Maryanne, Omar, Lindsay, Jackson, and Marya. The Ika tribe contains Rocksroy, Tori, Romeo, Swati, Zach, and Drea. And Chanelle, Daniel, Jenny, Hai, Lydia, and Mike are on the Vati tribe.

Jeff Probst immediately made the castaways participate in a reward challenge to earn flint, a pot, and a machete. During the challenge, Daniel dislocated his shoulder. But medical was able to pop it back into place, and he continued in the game. And at one part of the competition, Drea, Hai, and Lindsay earned a secret advantage called the “advantage amulet.”

The amulet will get more powerful if any of the three are voted off. So if Drea, Hai, and Lindsay are still in the game, they get an extra vote at the merge. If only two remain, then the amulet becomes a steal-a-vote. And if only one person is left, then the advantage is turned into an idol.

Jeff informed Jackson that they had to medically evacuate him from the game due to his medication. And Maryanne, Jenny, and Drea went on a summit. Jenny protected her vote, while Maryanne and Drea risked their vote, which meant they gained an extra vote.

Taku and Vati won at the Immunity Challenge, sending Ika to Tribal Council. Zach used his “Shot in the Dark,” but it didn’t work, and the rest of his tribe voted him out. So, Zach will not be the winner of Survivor Season 42.

Fans believe Maryanne could be the winner of ‘Survivor’ Season 42

One dedicated Survivor fan started a Reddit thread where they analyzed the edits of the castaways in the premiere. And based on their research, they predict that Maryanne might be the Survivor Season 42 winner.

“Maryanne is probably my favorite to win only because, in combination with the rumors going on, I just think it makes sense,” they wrote. “I could totally see them lean into her being [over the top] as a juxtaposition to last season, in addition to several references to ‘young women on Survivor‘ in the episode (which came up more than once by Lydia and Swati). [I don’t know], all the pieces fit for her to win.”

The fan added, “So given everything, my top contender is Maryanne (at least until the current spoiler gets dethroned), with Omar, Mike, Lindsay, and Jenny are sorta in the next tier until proven otherwise. I think the second episode will be important when there’s no evacuation to see the dynamics.”

A spoiler is going around the Survivor fandom that states that Maryanne wins season 42. There’s no credibility to that spoiler yet, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not true.

This isn’t the first time fans have predicted the ‘Survivor’ Season 42 winner

Unfortunately, there’s no efficient way to prove a spoiler is valid until its airs on television. So we won’t know who the winner of Survivor Season 42 is until the finale. But that won’t stop fans from guessing who earns the title of Sole Survivor.

Before the season premiered, many spoilers claimed to know who the winner was. Some believe it could be Lydia based on social media, and others think Omar has a good chance at making it far. And the list will likely only grow as we get deeper into the season.

Survivor Season 42 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
