If you’re looking to add a little romance to your watch list, Showtime has you covered. The premium cable network has a solid lineup of romantic films that will get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day, whether you’re looking for a comedy or a tearjerker

Love is in the air this month. And if you’re looking to add a little romance to your watch list, Showtime has you covered. The premium cable network has a solid lineup of romantic films that will get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day, whether you’re looking for a comedy or a tearjerker.

‘The English Patient’

Ralph Fiennes, Juliet Binoche, and Kristin Scott Thomas star in this epic 1996 romance, about a seriously injured World War II soldier who recounts the story of his affair with another man’s wife while he was mapping uncharted territory in North Africa a decade earlier. The English Patient won nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

‘Letters to Juliet’

A young woman named Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) visits Verona, Italy — home of Romeo and Juliet — with her distracted fiancé. While exploring the city, she discovers that women leave “letters to Juliet,” which are answered by a team of local women. She joins them, and soon develops a connection with an elderly woman named Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) looking for her long-lost love. In the process, Sophie begins to fall for Claire’s handsome grandson.

‘Adrift’

In this based-on-a-true-story film, Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin star as Tami and Richard, a couple who set out to sail from Tahiti to California. But when a hurricane nearly sinks their boat — and leaves Richard’s fate uncertain — Tami draws on her love for him as she struggles to survive.

‘Jerry Maguire’

These days, Jerry Maguire might be best remembered for the now-classic lines “Show me the money!” and “You had me at hello.” But this movie about a disgruntled sports agent (Tom Cruise) who strikes out on his own is more than just one-liners. There’s plenty of romance too, as Cruise’s character navigates his relationship with Dorothy (Renée Zellweger), the loyal co-worker who he falls for.

‘Tell It to the Bees’

In this 1950s-set movie, a doctor (Anna Paquin) returns home to a small Scottish town to take over her father’s medical practice. She becomes friendly with a young boy, who she invites to take care of the bees in her yard. At the same time, she finds herself developing a relationship with the boy’s mother (Holliday Grainger). But will their love be able to survive the prejudices of the time?

‘Blue Valentine’

Not every romantic beginning leads to a happy ending, as is made abundantly clear in the 2010 film Blue Valentine. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star as an unhappily married couple with a young daughter. In a series of flashbacks, we see the start of their relationship and are able to see how and why things turned sour.
