MTV’s The Challenge features plenty of fan-favorite veteran players each season, but fans miss seeing Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio and Cara Maria Sorbello take center stage. Recently, Cara Maria answered fan questions on Instagram. And she posted a video of Johnny “Bananas” that seemed to insinuate MTV isn’t inviting her back on the show.

Cara Maria Sorbello and Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio weren’t on MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ Season 36

Johnny “Bananas” and Cara Maria are two of the most recognizable faces from MTV’s The Challenge. But neither of them competed on season 36, Double Agents. As for Johnny, he won season 35, Total Madness. And he talked about possibly taking a break after achieving his seventh win.

“I’m 20 seasons in and I’d be lying if I said that I’m the same person physically and mentally as I was before I started this journey 15 years ago,” he explained to People. “I don’t say this lightly, but every season that I go on The Challenge, I feel like a little piece of me dies.”

As for Cara Maria, her last Challenge season was back in 2019 with War of the Worlds 2. And her behavior on the show rubbed many fans and contestants the wrong way. After that, she decided to take a break from the show.

“For so long, I was, like, you know the money is so good. I can’t say no,” she said on the Watch With Us podcast. “I needed a little break for my own sanity and my own happiness, just finding what makes me me again and get my light back.”

Did Cara Maria retire? Johnny ‘Bananas’ insinuated MTV doesn’t want her

So, will Cara Maria ever return to MTV’s The Challenge? A fan asked her via Instagram Stories if she’ll ever come back with boyfriend Paulie Calafiore. She replied with a video captured by Reddit of Johnny “Bananas” talking about how MTV banned a few past players from the show.

“There’s a very select few people who haven’t been asked back, probably never be asked back, for The Challenge again,” Johnny said.

“We are rested and ready but … maybe he knows something we don’t,” Cara captioned the video of Johnny.

Fans think they know why production hasn’t asked Cara Maria to return. It seems she may have caused some trouble with Total Madness.

“Cara posted spoilers on Instagram for Total Madness and claimed the entire season was rigged for Bananas and somehow thinks production is just gonna welcome her back with open arms?” a Reddit user added.

Will either one of them join ‘The Challenge’ Season 37 cast?

Will Cara Maria or Johnny “Bananas” return for MTV’s The Challenge Season 37? It doesn’t seem so. Rumored cast listings reveal who will compete. And it looks like viewers will see a number of competitors from Double Agents as well as a whole group of international rookies.

The Challenge Chronicles podcast reported on rumors suggesting the new theme will have international players teaming up with U.S. players. “We know the format now,” the podcasters said. “It’s not one alumni with one newbie. It’s actually one international player with one American character. So, Kyle [Christie] could be paired with Tori [Deal], for example.”

When it comes to returning cast members, rumors suggest Nany Gonzalez, Tori Deal, Ashley Mitchell, Big T Fazakerley, Aneesa Ferreira, Kaycee Clark, Amber Borzotra, Nelson Thomas, Nam Vo, Devin Walker, Fessy Shafaat, Josh Martinez, Cory Wharton, Kyle Christie, and CT Tamburello are all coming back.
