The Matrix Resurrections continues the sci-fi franchise’s legacy. Writers Lana Wachowski, David Mitchell, and Aleksandar Hemon introduce an intensely meta aspect to the fourth installment. However, The Matrix Resurrections has a Keanu Reeves Easter egg that expands that meta quality to new depths involving noodles. Longtime franchise fans are loving it.

The Matrix Resurrections introduces two separate realities. One is everyday life in San Francisco. Neo (Reeves) lives under the name Thomas A. Anderson. However, the second reality lies behind it. Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) pursues Neo to once again give him the chance of taking the red or blue pill. He must decide quickly if he would like to wake up and truly open his eyes.

The Matrix Resurrections was shot on location in San Francisco simultaneous to Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Den of Geek confirmed that the two productions interfered with one another. Keanu Reeves has an Easter egg that involves noodles that ‘triples the meta’

One Redditor shared the observation that a fun Reeves Easter egg is visible in The Matrix Resurrections. One scene shows Neo eating noodles in a restaurant. There’s a picture on the wall next to him in the shot that shows Reeves years earlier at the same restaurant in San Francisco.

Restaurant owner and chef Kathy Fang posted on her blog explaining how Reeves and The Matrix Resurrections ended up at House of Nanking.

“That’s me when I was in middle school, with Keanu Reeves aka my heartthrob/crush waiting in line at House of Nanking,” Fang wrote. “This photo still sits on our wall in House of Nanking. If you go to there to eat, you will find this photo hanging on the wall by the window seats.”

Fang continued: “The film crew was so nice they surprised me with a new and better one. They made a clearer version for me to hang on the wall so it could stay there for many more years to come.”

“And if you’re wondering why we got selected, well this photo provides a hint,” Fang wrote. “Keanu along with the directors, creators of The Matrix and the crew have all been long time fans of House of Nanking. They are some of our O.G. customers.”

The Matrix Resurrections fans are eating this Reeves Easter egg right up. One Redditor called it, “Triple the meta!” The meta nature of this Easter egg fits right into the film’s theme of multiple realities. Another called it “an Easter egg of Easter eggs,” which is remarkably fitting.

Another Redditor called it, “all part of the Analyst’s plan. To keep Neo under control. Giving him something that he once yearned.” This certainly checks out in the grand scheme, particularly as it relates to keeping Neo close to Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), who he calls Tiffany.
