Who would have thought that 2022 would be the year of Kate Bush? First, Stranger Things Season 4 featured her 1985 hit song “Running Up That Hill,” and it topped numerous charts 37 years after its release. And now, it’s come out that her music was almost featured in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thor: Love and Thunder, according to Christian Bale, who plays the villain, Gorr the God Butcher.

Christian Bale makes his MCU debut as Gorr the God Butcher in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

With every new Marvel movie usually comes an epic new villain, and for Thor: Love and Thunder, that will be Gorr the God Butcher.

In the comics, Gorr is deadset on making all gods extinct, which doesn’t bode so well for the MCU’s resident God of Thunder. Gorr is originally from a planet that had very few resources. And despite disasters, death, famine, and more horrible circumstances, its people still believed that the gods would save them. But following his family’s death, Gorr became hateful toward gods and pledged to kill them all for not helping his loved ones.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, it seems like Gorr’s storyline will be similar to the comic books. And his quest will lead him directly to New Asgard and Thor.

The actor opens up about filming the Marvel movie

During an interview with Total Film, Christian Bale discussed the inspiration for Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder.

“Mostly hearing [director] Taika [Waititi]’s thoughts on it,” the actor shared. “There’s obviously sort of a Nosferatu slight attitude. Taika and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn’t get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at. But I think he just realized he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film.”

Bale added, “I would say that the most common thing I was staring at was the Aphex Twin video of ‘Come To Daddy.’ But I don’t even know if that will be in the final film.”

Bale might have been joking around about the Kate Bush dance, but the visual is just too pleasing to imagine, so we choose to believe that it was almost a possibility. And given the singer’s recent rise in popularity, hopefully, we’ll see Bale as Gorr from Thor: Love and Thunder perform the dance one day.

Christian Bale reveals that Gorr in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ strays slightly from the comics

While speaking with Total Film, Christian Bale shared the main difference between Thor: Love and Thunder‘s Gorr and the comics’ interpretation of the villain.

“You sort of go, ‘I know what he does.’ It’s right there in the name, isn’t it?” Bale expressed. “But I did make the mistake of Googling him and, oh no! [In the comics], he runs around in a G-string all the time. And I thought, ‘They don’t have the right man for that!’ And then Taika quickly dispelled any notions of running around in that. But I always did think what he could do with this in front of a bluescreen. He could chuck on whatever he wants later on.”

Based on the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, Waititi was telling the truth about the change in Gorr’s costume.

Thor: Love and Thunder premieres exclusively in theaters on July 8.
