ABC News talked with Chalamet about his Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me by Your Name. However, he was also the talk of the town for his role in Lady Bird. He plays Kyle Scheible, who is a student at the boys’ school. Chalamet plays the “cool kid” in Lady Bird that Ronan’s lead character has sex with. However, that relationship wasn’t so easy to pull off.

“In that movie, I’m supposed to be an object of desire or at least an object of aloofness,” Chalamet said. “It was tough as hell with Saoirse because I don’t feel any of that with her. And certainly, our relationship in real life did not play out at all like that.”

Chalamet further revealed to ABC News an embarrassing story between himself and Ronan while filming Lady Bird. He desperately wanted her to think highly of him but didn’t quite understand how to conduct himself around other high-profile actors yet.

“So she came over one day, and she was like, ‘Oh, you know, we’re all going to get drinks after work today, if you want to come,'” Chalamet recalled. “And I said, ‘Oh, well, you know, I don’t have a fake ID.’ She goes, ‘Oh, you don’t have a fake ID?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s the rush?’ And she goes, ‘What’s the rush?!’”

Chalamet didn’t initially put much thought into it, not caring much that he didn’t have a fake ID. However, on second thought, the actor quickly changed his mind and wanted to do all that he could to appear “cool to her.”

Chalamet continued” “And she walked away, and I kind of wanted to go, ‘No! Come back!’ Like, ‘Please think I’m cool!’ You know, I totally made myself not cool to her.”

However, the actor admitted that he learned to become more subtle when working with actors he admires, including Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Matthew McConaughey.

The New York Times interviewed Chalamet and Ronan about their roles in Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name, which both earned Oscar nominations. She quickly admitted that she now calls Chalamet “pony.” Ronan started to call her co-star that name, “Because he’ll come up to Greta [Gerwig] and me and nuzzle us.”

After Ronan called Chalamet “pony,” he “lowered his head like a baby foal and nestled it gently beneath Ms. Ronan’s jaw.” It’s clear that they have a very playful relationship, even despite Chalamet’s previous encounter regarding the fake ID embarrassing him.

“It’s quite disarming,” Ronan said with a laugh. “My Pretty Pony!”
