Reboots and sequels have been all the rage in Hollywood for the past few years, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up. Some turn out really good while others… don’t. But with the huge success of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, it’s no wonder Netflix wants to continue rebooting the ‘80s classic and is going forward with a He-Man sequel anime. But will these two Netflix shows crossover at all?

A He-Man ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ Show is coming to Netflix

Last August, it was announced that Netflix was producing an anime-style series called Masters of the Universe: Revelation. It’s a direct sequel to the 1980s series, so it’s staying within the canon of that original source.

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Kevin Smith said, according to Variety. Smith is the showrunner and executive producer on the show. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor!”

He also said that it’s going to include “the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame,” and will deliver the “Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

In February, Deadline reported a star-studded cast for the series, too. The iconic Mark Hamill is voicing Skeletor, Lena Headey will play Evil-Lyn, Chris Wood is the mighty Prince Adam/He-Man, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is Teela. There are also so many more big names. This sequel is a bit of a big deal.

The cast and creator of ‘She-Ra’ are down for a crossover

Where does this leave the Netflix hit She-Ra and the Princesses of Power? Well, they’re two completely different canon stories. Masters of the Universe: Revelations is a sequel in the spirit of the original series; She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is its own entity.

However, that didn’t stop showrunner and creator of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Noelle Stevenson, from wanting some kind of crossover.

“I’m going to keep pitching this until it happens,” Stevenson told SYFY at New York Comic-Con in October. “So, it’s He-Man, and it’s this awesome, Powerhouse, very anime, cool style. Then She-Ra is all poppy colors, and they’re both in their style, and they both come together for a She-Ra/He-Man Christmas Special, and Santa will come, and they’ll decorate the tree, and teach Skeletor to love. It’s gonna be great.”

It might not be just some shot in the dark, either. AJ Michalka, who plays fan-favorite Catra, knows Smith personally from working on Goldbergs together for a couple of years. She’s already on the case, admitting that she “shamelessly” texted Smith when the news was announced.

“‘I heard you were doing He-Man, and I just wanted to let you know that me and the She-Ra girls are ready for a crossover whenever you are,'” Michalka recalled texting him at NYCC. “And he was like, ‘I’m gonna consider this.'”

The cast seemed excited and fans at the panel seemed excited. It seems like, between the two casts, a whimsical Christmas special (or something else) could be a really fun idea.

Here’s why it might not work

There are some bumps in the road, though, if they want a crossover. For one, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is over now. The finale season premiered on May 15. Now, this type of special — where you’re mixing two animation styles and doing a story outside of canon — could work anyway, outside of the show, but that’s something to think about.

Another big hurdle, that’s mentioned above, is that the animation and canon are totally different. But still, it could be fun for a non-canon, one-off instance. It would be the perfect way to combine the two twins without shifting the focus away from their respective shows.

For She-Ra, they already defeated the evil trying to invade Etheria. Every time they talked about where Adora came from, it was never mentioned that she could have a twin. But, Eternia, where He-Man is from, was mentioned already in the show. It’s established that that’s where She-Ra was born and came from. It’s also where the First Ones are from. So it’s not like the groundwork isn’t there.

It would need a lot more than one episode to really dive into it all. But for a special of some kind, it could work. Overall, it could be a great way to combine the two and get a lot of laughs out of fans of the originals.
