Hallmark Channel has set a premiere date for When Calls the Heart Season 9. New episodes of the long-running series starring Erin Krakow, Chris McNally, and Kevin McGarry will begin airing in early March 2022.

‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 9 premieres March 6

The new season of When Calls the Heart premieres Sunday, March 6 at 9 p.m. ET, according to an exclusive report from ET

The March start date is later than some Hearties may have been expecting. In past years, the show has begun airing new episodes in February. Though fans will have to wait a bit longer to see what’s happening with Lucas, Elizabeth, and the rest of their favorite characters, they can look forward to another 12-episode season, just like in season 8. Earlier seasons of the show typically had 10 or fewer episodes.

When Calls the Heart Season 9 picks up some time after the events of the season 8 finale. In that episode, Elizabeth (Krakow) and Lucas (McNally) declared their feelings for each other, leaving Mountie Nathan (McGarry) on the sidelines.

In season 9, Elizabeth and Lucas will be moving beyond courtship to a deeper relationship, according to a synopsis shared with ET. But there could be trouble ahead for the lovebirds. As Elizabeth gets to know Lucas better, she learns things about his past that give her pause.

The season 8 closer also saw several Hope Valley residents planning to enter the town’s mayoral race, including Lee Coulter (Kavan Smith) and Bill Avery (Jack Wagner). The hotly contested election stirs up excitement in season 9.

Fans will also see the community of Hope Valley continue to evolve in season 9. Development of the foundry is progressing, though based on Bill’s reaction to shady businessman Wyman Walden’s (Wesley Salter) plans in season 8, not everyone is ready to embrace change.

Season 9 also brings some new additions to When Calls the Heart’s ensemble cast. Amanda Wong has joined the show as a character named Mei Suo, and a clip from an upcoming episode hints that she could be a potential love interest for Nathan

Also new to When Calls the Heart is Hyland Goodrich. He’s stepping into the role of Elizabeth’s son Little Jack, taking over from twins Gunnar and Lincoln Taylor.

While there will be some hearty Hope Valley welcomes in season 9, there will also be some bittersweet goodbyes. Jesse (Aren Bucholz) and Clara (Eva Bourne) have left Hope Valley to homestead in Montana, fans learned in a sneak peek. Plus, Paul Greene’s Dr. Carson Shepherd character left town at the end of season 8, and so far, it doesn’t look like he’ll be back for season 9.
