McNally joined the When Calls the Heart cast in 2019 as Lucas Bouchard, a businessman who moves to Hope Valley and eventually wins the heart of widowed teacher Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow). Now, he’s signed on for Firefly Lane Season 2, and it sounds like he’ll be playing a very different kind of character in that show.

According to Deadline, the Candian actor will play “a charismatic new English teacher “ named Mr. Waverly. Meeting him pushes Kate and Tully “out of their comfort zones and inspires them to reach for new heights.”

McNally has also been cast in Rise of the Pink Ladies, Paramount+’s upcoming Grease prequel. He’ll continue to play a prominent role in When Calls the Heart Season 9, which premieres Sunday, March 6 on Hallmark Channel.

More new cast members joining the Netflix series

McNally won’t be the only new face in Firefly Lane Season 2. Ignacio Serricchio has joined the show as a series regular, Deadline reported. He’ll play Danny Diaz, a sports reporter who has some serious chemistry with Tully (Heigl). India de Beaufort plays Charlotte, a character in the 1985 storyline. She’s a quiet aspiring journalist who has a major crush on Johnny (Ben Lawson).

Greg Germann plays Benedict Binswanger, a member of a powerful and influential logging family who decides to run for governor of Washington in the 1980s. But his family has a long-held secret that he’s desperate to make sure stays buried. Finally, Jolene Purdy portrays an upbeat talent agent named Justine Jordan. The charming and no-nonsense Justine is the kind of person whom everyone wants on their side, including Tully.

Firefly Lane Season 1 dropped in February 2021 on Netflix. It’s based on a book by Kristin Hannah and stars Heigl as Tully (with Ali Skovbye as a younger version of the character) and Sarah Chalke as her best friend Kate. (Roan Curtis plays a young Kate.) The streaming service renewed the show in May 2021. Both Heigl and Chalke will return for season 2.

“We don’t have all the answers yet,” Chalke said in a Zoom video announcing the renewal news (via YouTube). “But trust us. It is going to be worth the wait.”
