Abercrombie & Fitch was the coolest place to shop from the ’90s to the early 2000s. Now, White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch explores the company’s highs and lows.

“It was such a pop-culture phenomenon,” a voiceover in the trailer states. “It was the all-American look.”

“Abercrombie & Fitch said, we go after the cool kids,” another voiceover states. “If they didn’t look a certain way, they didn’t belong in our clothing. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.”

Through the years, the company came under fire for discriminating practices they allegedly used during hiring. They were also sued for race and sex discrimination. In 2004, they settled a class-action lawsuit, The New York Times reports, but in 2015, the Supreme Court revived a discrimination lawsuit. The lawsuit in question had to do with the company not hiring a Muslim woman because of her headscarf.

The company reportedly dropped to $10 per share by 2016. But in 2017, Fran Horowitz became CEO, and the company’s stock rose 271% from 2020 to 2021. It seems the brand overhaul worked.
