Ever wonder what being in the Kardashian-Jenner family is like? If you ask Kourtney Kardashian, she would probably give you her famous soul-piercing glare and warn against it. For the past 11 years, the royal family of reality TV has aired the good, the bad, and the ugly on Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kourtney has finally had enough of it. In Sunday’s season 15 premiere, the eldest Kardashian sister went so far as to call her family’s fame “disgusting” and made it clear that she doesn’t want to be part of the famous family anymore.

We take a closer look at the reasons why Kourtney doesn’t want to be a Kardashian, plus what she thinks about the show that launched her and her sisters into the spotlight, ahead.

Her family’s fame embarrasses her

If you’re an avid Keeping Up With The Kardashians fan, it probably comes of no surprise that Kourtney tries to stay out of the limelight as much as possible. While she still films the show, scenes with her mostly consist of traveling with the family, or in her kitchen talking about health and other Goop-worthy trends she’s tested out. Compared to the rest of her family, Kourtney keeps a more reserved lifestyle and has slowly stepped back to allow her younger sisters to take over the spotlight.

Up until now, the reason for Kourtney’s reservations was somewhat unknown — although many speculated it had to do with her kids. While those speculations are correct, they’re a small piece of the pie. In the first episode of season 15, Kourtney finally addresses why she keeps her distance. “Honestly, it’s like, we have a disgusting family. I’m ashamed to be a part of [it]. It’s just gross,” she said through tears in the season 15 premiere. When it comes down to it, Kourtney is embarrassed by all the family drama and the fame that surrounds it.

Her career goals don’t align with her sisters’

From a cult-favorite beauty brand to a fast-paced modeling career, the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan center their lives around work — and how to stay on top. That said, Kourtney’s career focus looks a little different. She partners with her sisters on products and films the show, but she also focuses her efforts elsewhere. In addition to being a mom to three, Kourtney also steers her attention away from the mess of reality TV and busy career and onto things like fitness, eating clean, and taking time for herself. “All everyone f—ing says is, ‘What’s your job?’” Kourtney said in Season 15, episode 1. “If I had enough money, I wouldn’t work. I wouldn’t do the show,” she added.

She wants to spend more time with her kids

Another reason why Kourtney doesn’t want to be a Kardashian anymore? It all boils down to her kids.“The guilt I carry every day from not being at home when they get in from school, not doing homework — my kids suffer,” she explained in the episode. Kourtney is protective of her kids and worries about their future. She’s trying to be the best mom she can be, and for her, that means putting them before a big career.

If it were up to her, she wouldn’t do the show anymore

Kourtney doesn’t care about her fame anymore — and she certainly doesn’t care about what it takes to stay on top. She knows that fame is getting to her family and she’d rather have her life than fame and fortune.
