Parenthood suits former The Office star Mindy Kaling.

Now the mother of two, she gave birth to her second child late this summer.

The producer and writer opened up about her life after his birth and why she’s feeling, as she put it, “postpartum pandemic fabulous.”

Mindy Kaling gave birth to her son in September

In an October appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor made an enormous surprise announcement: she had given birth to a baby recently. Specifically, Kaling said, she now had a son, he was born on Sept. 3, and his name is Spencer.

She tweeted shortly after making her news known about the unique experience of giving birth during a pandemic.

“Thanks to everyone for your kind words about the new addition to my family,” she said. “Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk.”

The Never Have I Ever producer is also mom to daughter Katherine born in 2017.

Her Vogue India cover

Most recently, Kaling has made a big splash on the cover of Vogue India, appearing on the publication’s December issue, in a red-and-white bold striped button-down dress.

The Late Night star posed for the photo shoot only six weeks after having given birth – which filled her with dread and fear, and almost caused her to turn down the invitation altogether.

She tweeted about her misgivings and eventual decision to take part in it, saying “I was so excited to be asked to be the cover of @VOGUEIndia’s December issue but seriously nervous because I would have to shoot it six weeks after giving birth to my son Spencer. I was not feeling body confident, and even considered saying no.”

Her initial hesitation, Kaling said, was replaced with a firm yes. The result is a token for herself of a significant moment in her life.

“But @KatieGreenthal and Vogue surrounded me with talented and wonderful people, and now I’m thrilled I have these photos as a memento of this very specific time in my life,” she said. “‘Post partum pandemic fabulous’ is what I like to call it. Thank you @VOGUEIndia, I love you! More photos to come. Enjoy!”

In her interview with Vogue India, the actor discussed how the pandemic has affected her family life.

“I’m very hard-working, but I’m also very social,” she said. “It was a lot of growing pains at the beginning of the pandemic. It made it easier that my daughter was here because she’s so fun and funny. In the beginning, it was a lot of just us staring at each other, but I got to know her better.”

She also spoke on her career, upcoming projects and, her hopes as a mother.

“The best relationship I had in my life was the one with my mom,” Kaling said. “It was so pure and so fun and uncomplicated, and I hope that I can have that with my son or daughter—if I’m lucky, with at least one of my kids—when they get older.”
