Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars 2022 is an event viewers will talk about for years to come. Now, some fans wonder if Will Smith’s net worth will deplete with the news that a few of his movies have paused production. But it seems he has other ways of making money.

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock shocked the audience — including Jada Pinkett Smith — when it happened during the Oscars 2022. Now, the actor’s facing the consequences. Not only did he resign from the Academy, but a few of the films he was set to star in have slowed in production.

The Apple TV+ project Emancipation was set to star Smith, and he also helped produce the project that’s now in postproduction. Emancipation had a 2022 release date, but The Hollywood Reporter notes Apple hasn’t given an official release date in light of the slap. Apple declined to comment to The Hollywood Reporter.

Additionally, Netflix had a new film starring Smith titled Fast and Loose. David Leitch withdrew as the director of the film following the slap. Now, the project has been pushed to the side completely for Netflix.

Not only that, but The Hollywood Reporter notes Bad Boys 4 also paused production. Smith received 40 pages of the script before this pause.

The actor will likely still earn 10s of millions of dollars in 2022 — with or without movies in production

Will Smith’s Oscars 2022 slap may live in infamy and affect his movie income for 2022. But Will Smith’s net worth, in general, is unlikely to be too affected by the pause or cancelation of his films. In fact, it’s likely he’ll still see tens of millions of dollars of income in 2022.

According to Forbes, Smith earned $44.5 million in 2020, and he has multiple avenues for his income, acting aside. In 2017, Smith pushed his social media platforms. Now, his Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok rake in millions of dollars that account for a huge portion of his annual income, as he didn’t release any new films in 2020. Additionally, Smith made a deal with Snapchat during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to create a new series, “Will from Home.”

As of April 2022, he still has 63.5 million followers on Instagram, 9.86 million subscribers on YouTube, and 70.4 million subscribers on TikTok.

Fox Business reports that Will Smith’s net worth stands at $350 million in 2022. So, how much did the actor get paid for King Richard?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith was paid $40 million for his role in the film. The publication also notes he gave additional payouts to Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, who play Venus and Serena, Tony Goldwyn, Jon Bernthal, and Aunjanue Ellis. A source noted these payouts served as an additional bonus on top of the studio’s compensation.

Smith’s co-star Layla Crawford talked more about his generosity. “He gave us Polaroid cameras and different treats all the time,” she said. “He’s just such a generous and sweet person. He also gave us iPhone 12 Pro Max gifts in boxes. We ripped them open, and everyone started crying. I literally cried my eyes out — it was the best gift ever.”

While the actor will be fine in 2022, we’ll have to wait and see if Will Smith’s net worth faces any long-term repercussions due to the slap.
