Netflix is ramping up the excitement surrounding The Witcher Season 2, with the streamer unveiling two new clips during its virtual TUDUM event on Sept. 25. One of them demonstrated the kind of danger Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and Princess Cirilla (Freya Allen) will find themselves in — complete with a monster from The Witcher games. For those as confused as Ciri when it comes to what a Bruxa is, here’s what to expect from The Witcher Season 2.

Geralt protects Ciri from a Bruxa in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 clip

Netflix shared a lot of exciting news about The Witcher at TUDUM, greenlighting the show for a third season and showing off new footage of its upcoming second season. The first new clip the streamer unveiled showed Geralt waking up Ciri and telling her to run. He warns her that there’s a Bruxa wherever they’re staying, but that doesn’t mean much to her.

It certainly worries Geralt though, who growls at her to get moving and takes a potion to enhance his Witcher strength. The clip doesn’t actually show the Bruxa, but it makes one thing clear: Geralt takes this threat very seriously.

Given how calm The Witcher‘s lead usually is, it’s concerning that a Bruxa would get him so worked up. So, what exactly is this creature that has Geralt so flustered?

The Bruxa threatening Geralt and Ciri is taken straight from The Witcher games, and it’s one of the more powerful monsters from this world. A type of vampire who poses as a human, a Bruxa is fast, strong, and capable of wielding its sharp teeth and claws against its victims. Unlike the vampires typically seen in media, it isn’t affected by sunlight. In fact, only a silver sword does much damage to it.

A Bruxa can also mess with humans’ dreams, explaining why Geralt is so concerned about Ciri coming into contact with it. The trailer for The Witcher Season 2 sees Ciri struggling with nightmares about her destiny, something a run-in with a Bruxa would likely exacerbate. On top of that, she likely hasn’t begun training at this point — meaning she’d have a hard time keeping up with such a powerful creature.

The Bruxa may be the focal point of Netflix’s new clip, but it’s far from the only threat Geralt and Ciri are likely to face during The Witcher Season 2. Their journey to Kaer Morhen will no doubt prove long and strenuous — and monsters and men threaten their ability to make it all the way there.

Although Ciri got away from them in season 1, the Nilfgaardian army will probably continue searching for her in season 2. She and Geralt will need to be smart about how they proceed, since even Cavill’s character can’t take an entire army on his own.

Fans will find out how they fare when The Witcher Season 2 finally arrives. The new episodes are currently slated to hit Netflix on Dec. 17, 2021.
