In 2020, the actor, singer, and dancer received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Tina Turner in the West End production of Tina. Viewers might recognize Warren from her TV roles in Blue Bloods as Rachel Manning or Orange Is the New Black as Dina. Women of the Movement is Warren’s first leading role in a television series.

The young actor who portrays 14-year-old Emmett Till in the Women of the Movement cast is relatively new to the television scene. According to IMDb, he portrayed Lionel in Modern Family in one episode in 2017. He also played 11-year-old Dom in the Freeform series Good Trouble. Joe’s only film role was voicing Dom James in the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Before joining the Women of the Movement cast as Emmett’s grandmother, Alma, Tonya Pinkins already had an extensive filmography. According to IMDb, She began her career with a minor role in the soap opera As the World Turns in 1984. Pinkins starred in All My Children as Livia Frye Cudahy for 18 years. In 2009, she appeared in several episodes of Army Wives as Viola Crawford and 24 as Alama Matobo. Pinkins more recent roles include portraying Susan Thompson in Madam Secretary, and Marsha in God Friended Me.

In addition to Warren, Joe, and Pinkins, the Women of the Movement cast includes Glynn Turman as Emmett Till’s great uncle, Mose Wright. Viewers might recognize Turman from various film and television roles, including How to Get Away with Murder, where he portrayed Nate Lahey, Sr. According to IMDb, Turman is most well-known for playing Dr. Woodward in the 2011 Steven Spielberg film Super 8. He also starred in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom as Toledo in 2020 and John Dies at the End in 2012.
