‘1000-lb Sisters’: Tammy and Amy Slaton’s Sibling Dynamic Makes Total Sense When You Look at Their Zodiac Signs
Tammy and Amy Slaton are working on repairing their sisterly bond.
In 1000-lb Sisters Season 8, the Kentucky siblings’ relationship reached an all-time low. The pair went months without speaking after Amy abandoned Tammy in Pittsburgh following the latter’s skin removal surgery. Then, Tammy accused Amy of being a “deadbeat mom.” Eventually, they patched things up, and Tammy even made an appearance at Amy’s “haunted” wedding, which she’d sworn she wouldn’t attend.
Tammy and Amy seem to be in a better place in season 9, which premiered September 1 on TLC. But if the past is any guide, there will still be some fireworks between these siblings, who each have big personalities. That fiery dynamic makes total sense when you look at their Zodiac signs.
Tammy, who was born July 27, is a Leo, a fixed Fire sign. Amy, who was born October 28, is a Scorpio, a fixed Water sign. They are exactly 90 degrees apart on the Zodiac, a relationship known as a Square aspect, which can lead to friction, tension, and push-pull energy.
How Tammy’s Leo energy clashes with Amy’s Scorpio vibes
Leos like Tammy thrive on drama – they love being center stage. Scorpios tend to work behind the scenes, holding control while maintaining emotional intensity. In the show’s early seasons, viewers saw that dynamic play out, as Tammy’s health struggles made her the center of the family’s drama and Amy fell into a caregiver role with her sister, who had serious mobility issues. Amy wanted to help Tammy, but she was also resentful of how her sister’s demands took away from her own life.
The complicated relationship between Tammy and Amy is exacerbated because they are both fixed signs, who don’t like being told what to do. Clashes can turn into a battle for control, as 1000-lb Sisters viewers have seen play out time and again. In one season 3 episode, the family took a trip to a cabin, but Tammy refused to get out of the van. Amy tried to push her sister to move, resulting in a fiery stalemate, until Amy eventually relented and took Tammy to a hotel.
‘1000-lb Sisters’ stars are loyal
While Tammy and Amy often clash, their occasional feuds are balanced by a fierce sense of loyalty. Both Leos and Scorpios are intensely loyal to people they let into their inner circle. Notably, the sisters have shown up for each other when it counts, with Amy supporting Tammy through her weight-loss journey and Tammy celebrating as Amy achieved her dream of becoming a mom.
In recent seasons, the dynamic between Amy and Tammy has shifted. Following her massive weight-loss, Tammy has embraced her new freedom. Meanwhile, Amy has had struggles with weight gain after her own surgery and an ugly divorce from her first husband, Michael Halterman. Now that she’s no longer in her caregiver role, Amy can focus on herself. But as she’s struggled more, her defensive and secretive Scorpio side has come out. But Scorpios are also resilient, meaning she’ll probably come through this season of changes with the determination to rebuild her life, perhaps through her nascent music career.
1000-lb Sisters airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on TLC. Episodes also stream on HBO Max.
