One of the most notorious 90 Day Fiancé cast members will be featured in the upcoming season of Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever. 

Season 2 of the docuseries about relationships gone wrong will cover the story of Geoffrey Paschel. He appeared in season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, which followed him as he traveled to Russia to meet his girlfriend, Varya Malina, in person. 

Malina eventually moved to the U.S. to be with Paschel. But their time together was short. In 2022, Paschel was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and interfering with emergency calls.

The charges stemmed from a violent incident with his previous girlfriend, who told police that he “grabbed [her] by the neck and slammed her head against the wall several time.” He also threw her to the ground and dragged her, took her cell phone, and refused to let her leave the residence.  

Paschel’s violent past was in stark contrast with the way he came across on 90 Day Fiancé. 

“People really liked him on the show,” a woman says in the teaser for Worst Ex Ever Season 2. “He’s portrayed as a very likable country boy.”

“He just kept thinking that I’m untouchable,” someone else says as the clip show Paschel in court. 

Varya Malina stands by Geoffrey Paschel 

Paschel will remain behind bars until last 2037, according to Tennessee prison records. But Malina has said she’s standing by her man while also making it clear she intends to live her best life in the meantime.

“As many of you know, my man is currently serving time in prison,” she wrote in a November 2023 Instagram update. “Instead of letting this situation hold me back, I’ve chosen to take a different path. I’ve decided to travel more, explore new horizons, and let the world be my guide.”

Last September, she marked Paschel’s birthday with another Instagram post. 

“Happy birthday,” she captioned a photo of herself and Paschel. “Even though we can’t celebrate together today, my heart is with you every moment.”

While Malina still supports Paschel, many 90 Day fans have expressed disgust that he was cast in the first place. (The assault that landed him in prison occurred prior to filming.) 

“How did TLC not run a background check on him before casting?” one person asked on Instagram. 

“What is the screening process like for applicants?” another wondered. ‘How’d he slip through the cracks, amongst some other chosen castmates?” 

Worst Ex Ever Season 2 premieres May 6 on Netflix.
