‘A Different World’ Cast Earns Straight A’s for Style at Red Carpet Premiere in Atlanta
The cast of Netflix’s A Different World hit the red carpet in Atlanta on September 21.
Original stars – including Jasmine Guy and Darryl M. Bell – joined newcomers like Maleah Joi Moon and Alijah Kai, as well as director and producer Debbie Allen, to celebrate the September 24 premiere of the 10-episode show, which follows the next generation of Hillman College students.
The star-studded celebration of the show and HBCU culture took place at Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. While Hillman is a fictional school, A Different World filmed entirely in Atlanta, including scenes at Morehouse, Clark Atlanta University, and Spelman College.
Naturally, everyone was looking their best at the premiere on Monday. Guy – who returns as Whitley Gilbert – wore a sleek black turtleneck with a keyhole neckline as she posed with Moon, who plays her onscreen daughter (and new Hillman student) Deborah Wayne, who wore an elegant red spaghetti strap dress with a thigh-high slit.
Chibuikem Uche, who plays Kojo Achebe, donned an embellished black military-style jacket, while Kai wore a long-sleeved black minidress with a plunging collared neckline and accessorized with a bright red bow in her hair.
In red carpet interview with Black Tree TV, Moon talked about how the next generation of A Different World stars felt the importance of carrying on the original show’s legacy.
“It’s only right that we carry forward that torch and continue … the legacy of talking about stigmatized topics and bringing awareness to conversations that need to be had,” she said. “That is something that had to happen at this show, so I’m just so glad that I got to be a part of it.”
A Different World is now streaming on Netflix.
