Actor Suing Rebel Wilson Has Been Unable to Eat or Sleep Due to Distress
During the closing arguments of actor Charlotte MacInnes’ defamation suit against Rebel Wilson, the former’s lawyer spoke about the distress her client has suffered. MacInnes claimed that Wilson accused her of walking back allegations of sexual harassment for career opportunities. The stress of this lawsuit has reportedly worn on her.
The actor suing Rebel Wilson reportedly feels acute distress over the court case
In 2023, MacInnes, who starred in Wilson’s directorial debut, The Deb, went to the beach with producer Amanda Ghost. Ghost reportedly suffered cold urticaria after swimming, which is an allergic reaction brought on by cold water. Ghost broke out into hives and was shaking. MacInnes and Ghost returned to her apartment, where they bathed together in swimsuits to warm Ghost up.
In an Instagram post, Wilson later claimed MacInnes told her the incident made her uncomfortable. She added that MacInnes later walked back the claim in exchange for career opportunities.
“The impression one gets when one sees the Instagram story … starting off with my client with a big red ring around her head is, ‘Poor Rebel, now she’s being backstabbed by this girl who was sexually harassed by this dodgy producer,’” said Sue Chrysanthou, MacInnes’ lawyer (per the Australian Broadcasting Corporation).
MacInnes has reportedly been left reeling by Wilson’s allegations. The Pitch Perfect actor also reportedly hired a PR firm to make malicious allegations about Ghost.
“My client has been unable to eat, unable to sleep, has been distressed … (she) fears what Rebel Wilson is going to do to her next,” Chrysanthou said. “No young woman dreams of being pulled into the spotlight by a celebrity and maligned.”
The actor’s lawyer described Rebel Wilson as a liar
Chrysanthou described Wilson as a bully. She also told the court that Wilson has repeatedly lied and worked to conceal evidence.
“She is a fantastical liar who has made up terrible, terrible allegations about multiple people and her own witnesses have discredited her,” she said. “We say Ms. Wilson cannot be believed on anything she has said.”
She also claimed that Wilson manufactured the complaint from MacInnes.
“What we have is a complete revision of history by Ms. Wilson, and the reason for that is … she never received such a complaint,” she said. “In fact, what happened is that at no point did Ms Wilson take any step as a responsible director to do anything proper about what she claims she was told.”
Wilson’s lawyer has also denied the allegations about her
Wilson’s lawyer, Dauid Sibtain, in turn, accused MacInnes of lying. He claimed it would go against Wilson’s interests to lie about the complaint. He also accused MacInnes of changing her story because she received career opportunities.
“That must have been a motivation in her mind for the change,” he said. “It is remarkable to see someone … fresh out of having performed a small part in a stage show launching straight into international travel between London, Cannes, Italy, and Los Angeles, it’s quite remarkable.”
