Why Adam Sandler Called the Police After Officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding
Adam Sandler‘s name has been in the headlines over the last few days after it was revealed that he officiated Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden. But following the wedding, Sandler contacted the police.
After he married the couple, the comedian made a trip to Nantucket Island, south of Cape Cod, and when he got there he decided to call the police. Sandler phoned the Nantucket police department with an unexpected request.
“Hey, I’m here on your island, and I like to play basketball,” public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds recalled Sandler saying, per the Nantucket Current. “Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?”
Reynolds directed the star to the Backus Lane court, where he joined in a pickup basketball game.
“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick-ups with the boys,” Andrew Kesler told the publication. “He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’”
Sandler has known Swift for several years, and his daughters are big fans of the pop star. At a 2023 screening of The Eras Tour movie, Swift made a point to stop by Sandler’s row to chat with them for a while. And in 2025, the comedian worked with Kelce when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made a cameo as a waiter in the film Happy Gilmore 2.
Wedding planner and founder of Elysium Events, Lucy Sinclair, told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “I think their decision to have Adam Sandler was a very clever choice. He resonates with so many people as he’s so famous. He’s so funny, and he’s such a great speaker that it’s almost like the entertainment itself.
“Their whole wedding was about the journey, the story, the entertainment, the luxury. So I think that he was a very, very clever choice because, I mean, of all the people in the world, you wouldn’t think Adam Sandler would be officiating a wedding. He also has so many connections to the other guests there, so it’s a great experience for everyone.”
Sinclair added that all the details coming out about the event “just screams luxury, but mixed in with a real sense of romance and personalization. From what we’ve seen so far, it just looks incredible. I predicted that Taylor and Travis were going to bring the garden inside the garden — and it looks like that’s what they’ve done … this whimsical garden with loads of flowers, something very over the top and luxurious with a romantic feel. And from what we’ve seen so far, I think that’s the vibe they’ve gone for.
“In the lead-up to the event, everyone was talking about how public the venue is — but when you think about it, it’s perfect for such a high-profile event. It’s a really private, secure building that can’t hold a huge amount of people. It’s got underground driveways so you can get in and out without being seen, the security is incredible.”
