‘American Idol’ 2025: Who Made the Top 3? When Is the Finale?
Who will be the next American Idol? The top three finalists have been revealed for the 2025 season of the long-running ABC singing competition show.
Who went home in the May 12 episode of ‘American Idol’?
Five contestants remained in the running heading into American Idol Season 23’s May 12 episode (which featured a special appearance by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda). At the end of the second part of Disney night, just three were left.
Slater Nalley belted out “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story and “Born to Be Wild” from D3: The Mighty Ducks. Thunderstorm Artis sang “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from Cinderella and “Find Yourself from Cars. Unfortunately, those performances weren’t enough to put them over the top in the final stage of the competition. Voters at home decided to send both men home.
Meet the 2025 ‘American Idol’ finalists: John Foster, Jamal Roberts, and Breanna Nix

With Nalley and Artis out of the running, just three contenders remain on American Idol 2025: John Foster, Jamal Roberts, and Breanna Nix.
Foster sang “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book and “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie. Roberts performed “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” from Remember the Titans and “Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast. Nix sang “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” from The Parent Trap and “You’ll Be in My Heart” from Tarzan.
Nix, a stay-at-home mom from Texas, reacted to making the top three in an Instagram post.
“I seriously have no words… I’m just so overwhelmed with gratitude,” she wrote. “This has been the most insane, amazing experience of my life. I’ve pushed myself in ways I didn’t even know I could, and to be in the TOP 3 because of YOUR votes?? That blows my mind. Thank you for believing in me.”
Foster told his social media followers that making it to the final round of American Idol voting is “the honor of a lifetime.”
“Thank you, God!! Thank you, America!! Thank you, Meridian! Thank you, American Idol!” Roberts wrote on his Instagram.
When is the ‘American Idol’ Season 23 finale?
Foster, Roberts, and Nix all return to the stage for the American Idol Season 23 finale on Sunday, May 18. The grand finale episode airs live coast-to-coast starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC. It streams the next day on Hulu.
Who will ultimately go home this season’s winner? It’s anyone’s guess, but Gold Derby predicts Foster will win it all, with Nix in second place.
