Karen Huger said that during her six months in prison, she only spoke to one Bravo personality: Andy Cohen. Huger served her sentence following a DUI conviction. While in jail, Huger said that she wasn’t allowed to talk to many people. Because of this, Cohen’s support meant a great deal to her.

The ‘RHOP’ star spent six months in prison 

In 2024, Huger was arrested after crashing into a street sign near her home. Her visible intoxication led to charges of DUI and DWI, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person, and recklessly driving a vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for the safety of persons and property.

Huger entered a recovery program, but she opted to take the case to trial. In 2025, she received a sentence of two years in prison. She ultimately served out six months of her sentence.

Now that she is out of prison, Huger is rejoining The Real Housewives of Potomac. She said that she is grateful to Bravo for supporting her.

“Bravo stood by me when I went through a lot,” Huger told E! News. “And I often credit the courage that I had from the training I had as a Housewife to make it through and to get sober and to be clean.”

Cohen remained in contact with her while she was behind bars.

“Andy was one of the few people that I allowed to talk to me inside while I was paying my dues,” she said. “Which I needed to do.” 

Huger said that his support meant the world to her.

“He was so lovely and so supportive,” Huger said, adding, “I adore him. I love him. I am so happy to be a part of his team and his family.”

Huger said that she rejected advice from her lawyers to take a plea deal because she was in denial and still under the influence of “prescription drugs and alcohol.” Shortly after her arrest, she denied having a problem with alcohol. She is now sober.

“I think you talking about the denial you were in is perhaps the biggest revelation that I’m feeling from you,” Cohen said, per Bravo. “I think that that’s a very big deal that you say you were in denial. Because you seemed like you were in denial, with all due respect.”

She confirmed that she was in denial, and had to do a lot of work to realize this.

“A year and a half, I’ve been working on that,” she elaborated. “So, I sort of forgive Karen. I really am at a place where I just love her now, you know? I’m embracing her and I’m excited to see where she’ll go.”

A number of Housewives’ struggles with drugs and alcohol haved played out on their shows. Huger doesn’t blame RHOP for her arrest. Instead, she told Cohen that she thinks the show helped her.

“The show actually saved me,” she said. “It occupied me. I think I would have spiraled quicker without it. It gave me discipline. I had a routine. So, I can’t hate it. I don’t hate it. And I don’t need to blame it either. No, I was responsible for me. I was sick. I have the disease of alcoholism. I have the disease of, you know, taking prescription medicine and abusing it. That’s me.”
