Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt ended their marriage in 2016, but the legal battle over their separation is far from over. Recently released emails give insight into the bitter relationship between the former couple. In a message to her lawyer, Jolie said the stress of her personal life was making her physically sick.

Brad Pitt allegedly sued Angelina Jolie for $35 million

According to recently filed court documents, Pitt is suing Jolie for $35 million. In 2021, she sold her stake in their French winery, Château Miraval. Pitt alleged she owed him millions of dollars in damages. He initially filed in 2022, claiming that Jolie sold her stake despite an agreement that neither party would do so without the approval of the other.

“The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation—he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” wrote lawyers for Jolie, per People. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”

Another email from Jolie’s team noted that Pitt was “seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.”

In email messages between Jolie and her business manager from May 2021, the actor said that the stress of her current situation was making her ill.

“I need to remove all stress,” she wrote, per USA Today. “I honestly feel I am getting sick from worry. So I would like us to discuss better support. And not continuing relationships that you see cause me stress.”

She also noted that she financially supported her brother, James Haven Voight, and it was beginning to wear on her.

“Financial situations like Jamie where I just give and give and don’t even get a thank you … is just wrong,” she wrote, adding, “It’s not for me to have to worry that I am always responsible every year no matter what. And he doesn’t need to save because he isn’t advised and always gets funds.”

Much of the email was redacted in court documents due to attorney-client privilege.

The couple separated in 2016

Though Jolie and Pitt ended their marriage nearly a decade ago, it took eight years for them to reach a settlement. Jolie filed in 2016, after two years of marriage. This came just days after a plane ride during which she said Pitt behaved violently towards herself and their children. At the time, Jolie declined to press charges, and Pitt was not charged by authorities. They have kept details of their divorce private.
