Anne Hathaway is notoriously private when it comes to bringing her personal life into the public eye. However, she recently gushed about her husband, Adam Shulman.

“He supports me completely,” she told People exclusively in April 2026. “This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it’s probably never going to happen like this again. And the way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he’s the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met.”

So, who is Shulman? According to People, the native New Yorker is an actor and a producer himself with a degree in theater from Brown University. In 2005, he appeared in the TV series American Dreams. Shulman also played Deputy Enos Strate in the TV movie The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning. He and Hathaway reportedly met through mutual friends in 2008 at the Palm Springs Film Festival, with Hathaway noting that she instantly knew he was the one for her.

Additionally, Shulman designs jewelry and co-owns the jewelry company James Banks Design. He designed the engagement ring that he presented to Hathaway when he proposed in 2011. Shulman and Hathaway tied the knot in 2012 in Big Sur, California, with no movie stars present.

While Hathaway and Shulman don’t regularly work together in the film industry, they have in the past. They reportedly collaborated on the indie drama Song One in 2014. Hathaway said she loved working with her husband despite warnings from others that no one should ever attempt to work with their spouse.

How many kids does the couple have?

Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman have two children. According to People, their eldest son, Jonathan Rosebanks, was born on March 24, 2016. They then had their second son, Jack, in November 2019.

Hathaway has gotten candid in the past regarding her personal struggles with infertility. In 2015, she had a miscarriage during a six-week run of the Broadway show, Grounded.

“The first time it didn’t work out for me,” she told Vanity Fair. “I was doing a play, and I had to give birth onstage every night.” She then told her friends that pretending everything was fine was too much to bear. “It was too much to keep it in when I was onstage pretending everything was fine,” she continued. “I had to keep it real otherwise…. So, when it did go well for me, having been on the other side of it — where you have to have the grace to be happy for someone — I wanted to let my sisters know, ‘You don’t have to always be graceful. I see you and I’ve been you.'”

In 2019 and during her pregnancy with Jack, she reflected on her journey in an Instagram post. “It’s not for a movie,” she wrote. “All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”

Hathaway also wants to ensure that her kids and family have privacy. “My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives,” she told PORTER in 2023. “It doesn’t even occur to me to link the two up, except through gratitude that they serve each other so beautifully. But they serve each other through me, and not through a space that’s outside of myself.”
