Another One of Brad Pitt’s Children Drops His Name
Another day, another one of Brad Pitt’s kids dropped their famous last name.
In 2016, Brad and Angelina Jolie separated after two years of marriage and nearly a decade together. They share three biological children and three adopted children. But now only two of their children still have their father’s surname.
Brad and Angelina’s divorce was finalized in 2024, the same year some of the kids decided to officially drop “Pitt” from their names. Shiloh was the first sibling to take legal action. On her 18th birthday, in May 2024, she filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that “Pitt” be removed from her name. That request was granted, and she is now legally known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie rather than Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
Shiloh’s sister, Zahara, followed suit to make the change legal, as she had already gone by Zahara Marley Jolie publicly before that. In September 2026, a judge granted her legal request as well.
Maddox, who is Angelina’s eldest child, also removed Pitt from his surname. The Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actress adopted Maddox in March 2002 while she was still legally married to fellow actor Billy Bob Thornton. However, she completed the adoption as a single parent with only her name on the paperwork. Brad legally adopted Maddox in 2006. That same year, the Fight Club star also filed for and completed the legal adoption of Zahara, and that’s when their last names were changed to “Jolie-Pitt.”
In February 2026, Maddox was credited as Maddox Jolie in the production credits for his mother’s film Couture. His legal name-change request to go by Maddox Chivan Jolie was approved on Sept. 14, 2026.
Now, Angelina and Brad’s 18-year-old daughter, Vivienne, has dropped “Pitt” from her last name.
According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, a California judge granted Vivienne’s legal name change from “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt” to “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie” as there was no objection filed to her petition. She now joins the other three siblings to become Brad’s fourth kid to ditch his name.
Vivienne had been publicly using her mother’s surname professionally for some time. In May 2024, she was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which she helped produce alongside her mother. When filing her legal petition last July, Vivienne reportedly listed the reason for her request as “personal.”
Pax and Vivienne’s twin brother, Knox, have not yet taken the steps to legally change their surnames. Knox did, however, reportedly use the name Knox Jolie on his high school diploma. But Pax continues to be publicly identified as Pax Jolie-Pitt.
A source close to Angelina recently told People, “For a decade she has kept silent, so not to disparage the father of her children. She has kept a dignified silence even while she was being attacked with misinformation.” And 10 years after Angelina initially filed for divorce, “there’s very little communication” between the Ocean’s 11 actor and his six kids, adding, “It’s a tragedy.”
