Will There Be a ‘Ballard’ Season 2? Star Maggie Q Has High Hopes
Will Renée Ballard be back to crack more unsolved cold cases? Prime Video’s new original series Ballard premiered July 9 and quickly rocketed to the top of the streaming service’s most-watched list. Now, viewers are eager to find out if there will be a season 2 of the Bosch spinoff, especially after that cliffhanger ending.
[Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ballard.]
‘Ballard’ ends on a cliffhanger
Ballard stars Maggie Q as an LAPD detective who’s been assigned the thankless task of working cold cases in retaliation for filing a sexual assault claim against her former partner, Robert Olivas (Ricardo Chavira). Ballard’s team includes fellow cops and civilian volunteers, as well as former officer Samira Parker (Courtney Taylor), who was also one of Olivas’ victims. Throughout the season, they work to identify the man who murdered multiple women, including the sister of an LA city councilman. In addition, Ballard uncovers evidence that Olivas and other members of the LAPD are involved in a cartel-linked gun-running scheme.
Although Ballard exposes the conspiracy, Olivas ultimately goes free after cutting a deal with DA Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers, reprising her role from Bosch and Bosch: Legacy.) Outraged, Ballard confronts Olivas at his home. Later, he is found dead, and in the last moments of the finale, Ballard is arrested for his murder.
Maggie Q shares ‘Ballard’ Season 2 hopes

Will Ballard beat the murder rap? Fans will have to wait until season 2 to find out – assuming that Amazon decides to renew the show. So far, the streamer hasn’t announced a decision about Ballard‘s future.
Maggie Q said she was hopeful Ballard Season 2 would get the green light, though she knows there are no guarantees in the world of TV.
“The good news is we have a writers’ room already, so that’s very positive,” she said in a Q&A with Variety. “That does not mean we’re going to get greenlit for a second season! I wish it did, but I’ve had writers’ room start and then get ended. But the good news is that we are breaking the second season, which is very exciting.”
The Nikita star predicted that even though Ballard has been arrested for killing Olivas, she won’t stay behind bars for long.
“In the beginning of the second season, we’re really going to reveal really how dirty this guy was,” she said when asked what she thought might happen in season 2. “We’re going to reveal who was behind his killing right away, which is going to be great because we can’t keep Ballard in jail.”
She also said that she “personally would love” for Harry Bosch actor Titus Welliver (who popped up in season 1) to have a role in a potential second season of Ballard.
“I think it would be cool to see Bosch appear in Ballard, because the universe then never dies,” she added. “…If it were up to me, I would love to see him swan in and out of our show.”
Ballard is streaming on Prime Video.
