Bravo Is Looking for Less ‘Obvious’ Locations for New ‘Real Housewives’ Shows, Andy Cohen Says
Bravo is casting a wide net when it comes to potential Real Housewives franchise expansions, Andy Cohen says.
The producer and Bravo personality recently sat down with Variety to talk about his new promotional campaign with Credit One bank. He also answered some questions about the Real Housewives universe, including what city he’d like the franchise to head to next.
“The answer is the cities that we want are usually the ones that are not obvious,” Cohen said. “We’ve cast in Nashville two or three times. We’ve cast in Chicago two or three times. We’ve cast in Greenwich, Connecticut.”
Cohen explained that producers had “cast wide nets and put groups of women on camera who could be potential Housewives” in all those cities. However, they haven’t found the “right groups” who would make an ideal Housewives cast.
The newest additions to the list of Housewives shows are The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and The Real Housewives of Rhode Island. Those two shows, along with The Real Housewives of Potomac, are all set in locations that might not have seemed like an obvious fit for Bravo until the network’s cameras showed up.
“When you look at Potomac and you look at Rhode Island, Salt Lake City before everybody started doing reality shows in Salt Lake City, these are places that people hadn’t thought of,” he said. “So I think it’s going to be more like that.”
Cohen’s comments come shortly after rumors started swirling that producers were casting for The Real Housewives of Montana. The show – which has not been confirmed by Bravo – would allegedly focus on women living in the wealthy ski and resort communities near Big Sky. Cohen didn’t comment on that possible expansion, but it would seem to fit with his desire to explore more unexpected locations in future Housewives shows.
