Break out the Post-its: Romy and Michele are returning for another reunion, ready to bluff their way through it. Earlier this month, 20th Century Studios announced that a long-awaited follow-up to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion was greenlit, with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino returning to reprise their roles. Apparently, things are moving quickly. Filming is underway, and several A-list stars have been spotted on set.

A new installment of ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ has begun filming

Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are back as Romy White and Michele Weinberger. The A-list actors portrayed inseparable best friends who were faking their way through life nearly 30 years ago, and they are ready to do it again. Sorvino, Kudrow, and several other stars were spotted filming scenes for the upcoming movie this week, and from the spy shots we have, we can say the fashion is on point.

Sorvino and Kudrow won’t be doing it alone, either. A deep bench of original cast members, including Janeane Garofalo as Heather Mooney and Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, is set to return. Camryn Manheim as Toby and Julia Campbell as high school villain Christie Masters are also attached to the project.

While there are plenty of stars set to return, the production team is pulling out all the stops. A few new faces will be joining the cast, as well. Keegan-Michael Key has been spotted on set already. Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham are all signed on to the project, too.

Meyer’s addition is interesting for fans of ’90s cult classics. Those in the know likely remember Meyer for his work as the stoner Travis in Clueless. It is unclear what roles the new additions will take on; the studio is keeping the plotline heavily under wraps.

When and where can fans expect to see the movie?

Filming has just begun, but insiders insist that the movie isn’t terribly far off. According to several sources, the movie, which will stream exclusively on Hulu, is likely to be released in 2027, though it’s unclear exactly when in the year fans can expect it.

Frankly, the timing couldn’t be better. We are seeing a wave of ’90s and 2000s nostalgia that makes cult classics like Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion incredibly attractive right now. The movie, if a success, could join the ranks of flicks like Hocus Pocus, which enjoyed just middling success at the box office but built a massive and enthusiastic fanbase through rewatches. That fanbase supported a successful sequel and possibly a third installment. Whether Romy and Michele can draw that crowd remains to be seen, but we sure hope so. We’ll reserve judgment until we have some plot information, though.
