Danica Patrick just took a not-so-happy walk down memory lane when talking about her past relationship with Aaron Rodgers.

The former race car driver and NFL quarterback dated for two years from 2018 to 2020 before Patrick’s publicist confirmed that they had split. Patrick previously talked about being “heartbroken” when their relationship ended and even admitted that she wanted to marry the signal caller, at one point telling E! News that she was “hopeful” he’d propose.

“I mean I would hope that’s the intention,” she said. “Look, there’s no guarantees in life, but as long as you have that intention, that’s what matters, right?”

That didn’t happen, and now Patrick has opened up about that time in her life again and characterized it as “emotionally abusive.”

Patrick calls her split from Rodgers the ‘most painful experience’ of her life

During an appearance on the Sage Steele Show podcast, Patrick was asked: “What’s the most amount of pain you’ve experienced?”

“The breakup with Aaron [in] 2020,” Patrick responded. “It was sudden. And because of the nature of the relationship was emotionally abusive, so that wore me down to nothing. Everything was torn to bits. He leaves a trail of blood.”

She added: “Felt like it was my life, when you live with someone, it was your whole life. It’s your dentist appointment. It’s your hairdo, your clothes. It’s like your mailing address. It’s like everything … I don’t think I’m saying earth-shattering stuff. There’s been enough [about Rodgers] out there.”

Patrick did, however, insist that she got something good out of that split, explaining: “It gave me the greatest gift, the greatest gift, which was myself. You know it gave me the greatest gift of how much I needed to show up for myself and take care of myself.”

Rodgers’ famous ex-fiancée also spoke out about how hard their breakup was on her

Shailene Woodley began dating Rodgers after Patrick. The two eventually got engaged but never made it down the aisle and pulled the plug on their relationship in 2022. But like Patrick, Woodley hasn’t been shy talking about how difficult and painful her split from the football star was.

In an interview with Porter, the actress discussed how she was going through the breakup while filming the series Three Women in Manhattan and revealed: “It was hard to film because I was going through the darkest, hardest time in my life. It was winter in New York, and my personal life was s*****, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months. I was so grateful that at least I could go to work and cry and process my emotions through my character.”

Woodley later called her time with Rodgers “toxic,” telling Outside Magazine: “I had this really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022. I really understood depression and anxiety. That was the lowest low of my life. I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right, but it was beautiful.”
