DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith’s Relationship Back in Spotlight After WNBA Cheating Scandal Rocks All-Star Weeknd
The big drama during the WNBA’s All-Star weekend was apparently happening off the court.
On June 26, the day after the league’s All-Star Game in Chicago, Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington took to Threads to accuse her ex-girlfriend, Las Vegas Aces forward NaLyssa Smith, of cheating on her with several other WNBA players.
Chicago Sky’s DiJonai Carrington accuses ex NaLyssa Smith of the Las Vegas Aces of cheating
“Since mfs wanna be funny today ima be hilarious! yes , nalyssa cheated on me with Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye +++ many more,” Carrington wrote in her post. (Kelly played with the Aces briefly in 2025 before being released earlier this year. Nye also played for the Aces last year before joining the Atlanta Dream in 2026.)
Carrington and Smith ended their relationship last year, but it seems the former was inspired to speak out after running into her ex at a party. In a post on Twitch, Smith admitted she’d encountered Carrington but said she wasn’t sure why the other woman decided to splash their personal issues all over social media.
“Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why are we bringing that to the internet a year later?” Smith said (via The Sporting News). “Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody. That don’t even make sense. Then, to bring it to the internet a year later is crazy. Just for fun? That’s ridiculous. Especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship. I would never do that to anybody.”
Carrington and Smith started dating when they played for Baylor
Carrington and Smith started dating in 2020, when they were both playing basketball for Baylor University. Their relationship continued for the next five years, and in 2025, they even played together for part of the 2025 season with the Dallas Wings. Smith eventually went to the Aces, where she was part of the team that won the 2025 WNBA Championship. At the time, Carrington was there to cheer her girlfriend on.
“My baby is a WNBA champion,” she wrote in an October 2025 post on X. “I’m so so freaking proud of you!!!!! You were the turning point of the season @NaLyssaSmith !!!! I love you beyond words!”
Shortly after, Carrington confirmed she and Smith had broken up.
“We’re good, but we’re not together anymore,” she revealed in November 2025, according to the New York Post. “It was on good terms – we just grew in different directions.”
Carrington and Smith will soon have a chance to settle their dispute on the court. The Sky face off against the Aces on August 1.
