Chris Harrison is ready to make a triumphant return to hosting duties on a brand-new reality dating show. Fans seem excited about it, and Harrison seems stoked about it, too. The producers of his old show, The Bachelor, however, are a lot less amused. Warner Bros. TV sent a cease-and-desist letter shortly after marketing materials for The Vow went live. Here’s what’s going on.

Fox Nation has received a cease and desist letter over ‘The Vow’

On September 16, Fox Nation released a teaser for Chris Harrison’s The Vow, its new dating show. The teaser was met with fanfare from fans who have missed having Harrison host Bachelor Nation shows. Two days later, though, Warner Bros. TV told Fox and producer Lionsgate to remove elements of the teaser. Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind The Bachelor, took serious issue with the imagery.

In the 30-second promo, Harrison steps over a fallen rose and declares that roses fade but true love lasts forever. Warner Bros. TV argued the trailer was a blatant attempt to ride on the coattails of its recognizable intellectual property, citing state and federal trademark law. The studio specifically pointed to the falling rose petals, calling red roses one of The Bachelor‘s central symbols, as well as mansion imagery.

The studio doesn’t object to Fox and Lionsgate launching a Harrison-hosted dating show, which it likely couldn’t stop anyway. Its complaint was with marketing that allegedly leaned on Harrison’s long history with Bachelor Nation. The studio asked Fox to remove the elements in question and avoid them going forward.

Fox isn’t interested in abandoning its latest marketing push. In a response sent September 24, the network called the claims malicious and vindictive and accused Harrison’s former employers of targeting him. Fox argued that Warner Bros. TV focused narrowly on a few stills while ignoring the trailer’s actual message. While Fox insists it wasn’t going after The Bachelor in the trailer and was instead aiming to differentiate itself from the show, fans aren’t exactly buying it, even if they do want to watch The Vow.

What is ‘The Vow’?

The Vow is Fox Nation’s first original dating series. Filmed in Austin, Texas, the show follows Jace Cates as he looks for a lasting commitment among 10 women handpicked for him. According to Swooon, Cates is an Oregon-based loan officer.

The show uses curated dates and real-world compatibility challenges to test whether shared values, faith, communication, and long-term goals can build a relationship that lasts after filming ends. Through decisions and honest conversations, Cates and the women will tackle questions about family and the future. The series will focus more on actual compatibility than shows like The Bachelor, which largely centers on physical attraction and drama inside the house.

The six-episode series premieres November 11 with two episodes, followed by weekly Wednesday releases through a December 9 finale. Harrison is executive producing alongside his wife, Lauren Zima, and the behind-the-scenes team includes several Bachelor veterans, including showrunner Louis Caric and consulting producer Elan Gale.

Why are Chris Harrison and ‘The Bachelor’ feuding?

This legal roadblock is just the latest chapter in Harrison’s rocky history with The Bachelor. He hosted the franchise for nearly two decades before exiting in 2021 amid controversy over his defense of contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who faced backlash for attending an antebellum plantation-themed party in 2018. Harrison apologized and stepped aside, and his departure became permanent months later. Jesse Palmer stepped in to take his place.

Since then, Harrison has made no secret of his hurt over how things ended, speaking candidly about his exit on his podcast. Bachelor Nation has faced numerous other issues in the years since his departure, and the franchise has struggled to find its footing as more dating shows with slightly different premises pop up. Whether The Vow will become even more competition remains to be seen.
