In February, the man once known as Prince Andrew was arrested on charges related to his association with the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In was the first time in nearly 400 years that a member of the British royal family had been arrested.
Despite the high-profile arrest, Andrew has not yet been charged with any crime. Instead, he was released under investigation after 11 hours of questioning. Now, he’s taken legal action to quash the warrants that led to his headline-making arrest on his 66th birthday.

The former Duke of York is asking the High Court in London to determine whether Thames Valley Police acted lawfully when they searched his former residence, Royal Lodge near Windsor Castle, and his home on his brother King Charles’ Sandringham estate, NPR reports. A hearing is scheduled for October 8.
Andrew is confident that the court will side with him, which he sees as an important step in clearing his name.

King Charles will not fund former Duke’s legal battle
The disgraced royal will have to pony up his own funds for his legal battle. King Charles has been using his private wealth to pay his younger brother a stipend to cover living expenses. But the King has made it clear that Andrew should not pay his lawyers with that money, sources told The Guardian.
After Andrew was detained on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Buckingham Palace issued a statement indicating that the King had no intention of stepping in to shield his brother from the potential legal consequences of his actions.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” the statement read. “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
“Let me state clearly: the law must take its course,” he added. “As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.”
