Congrats are in order as Formula 1 star George Russell and his partner, Carmen Montero Mundt, are engaged!

The Mercedes driver and Mundt met through a mutual friend in 2020 and began dating soon after. They made their first public appearance as a couple at the Tuscan Grand Prix in September of that year.

On Aug. 9, 2026, Russell and Mundt shared the happy news of their engagement via a joint Instagram post wth a carousel of photos. In two snaps, Mundt’s ring is on full display, and experts agree her canary diamond sparkler is “exceptional.”

Neil Dutta, managing director at jewelry retailer Angelic Diamonds, shared his analysis on the stunning ring Russell gave his fiancée and estimated how much it cost.

“George Russell and Carmen have always had quite a classic, polished style as a couple, and I think this ring fits that perfectly while still having something a little different about it,” Dutta told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Looking at the photographs, I’d estimate the centre stone to be an oval-cut yellow diamond of around 8 to 10 carats, set between two smaller white diamonds.

“It’s a beautiful three-stone setting, and the proportions have been really well considered. The elongated oval gives Carmen plenty of finger coverage, while the white side stones draw your eye into the yellow centre without competing with it.”

The jewelry expert added, “For me, though, it’s the color of that center diamond that really sets this ring apart. I’d expect a stone with this depth of color to fall into the Fancy Vivid Yellow category, often referred to as a canary diamond. Yellow diamonds get their color naturally from nitrogen within the stone, and generally, the richer and more saturated the yellow, the rarer and more valuable the diamond becomes. Getting this intensity of colour in a natural diamond at this carat weight is exceptional.

“It also gives what is otherwise quite a traditional three-stone engagement ring much more personality. Yellow diamonds are often associated with warmth, joy and optimism, which is fitting symbolism for an engagement ring. But they’re also a great choice for someone who wants something distinctive while still feeling timeless. Taking the size of the center diamond, its color, and the additional side stones into account, I’d estimate this ring to cost around $750,000-$800,000.”

Jewelry expert and Mokume Gane creator Jaume Labro also shared her thoughts on the ring’s rare canary diamond.

Speaking on behalf of Cafe Casino, Labro told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Although yellow diamonds have long been part of high jewelry designs, there is growing demand for color, personality, and uniqueness in centerstones — especially from high-profile clientele. Therefore, I do not believe that this ring completely shatters precedent; instead, it builds upon an emerging trend by pushing the boundaries of scale and intensity.

“The combination of an oval silhouette, substantial center stone, and vibrant color provides a very modern look, while maintaining the classic aesthetic of a three-stone setting. Due to their relative accessibility compared to other colors of fancy-colored diamonds, yet due to their rarity (a large, strongly saturated natural yellow diamond), they represent a truly unique piece.”
