Former NBA Player Kris Humphries Admitted He Was ‘Devastated’ That His Marriage to Kim Kardashian Only Lasted 72 Days
One celebrity marriage a lot of people tend to forget about is Kim Kardashian‘s marriage to former NBA player Kris Humphries. The reason for that may be because it only lasted 72 days. But Humphries said he thought it was going to last forever, so when things ended it was a complete shock and “devastated” him.
For anyone who needs a refresher, Kardashian and Humphries met through a mutual friend in October 2010. They began dating and after a whirlwind romance, got engaged in May 2011. They tied the knot on Aug. 20, 2011.
Their wedding, like all things with the Kardashians, became a television event as cameras captured the couple’s big day.
But not long after the ink dried on their marriage certificate, Kardashian filed for divorce. She filed on Oct. 31, 2011, in Los Angeles Superior Court, just 10 weeks after saying “I do,” citing “irreconciable differences.”
The reality star released a statement at the time that read: “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.”
Humphries had hoped it was forever too, so you can imagine his surprise when his bride decided to end things.
“I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” he said in a statement obtained by People. “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”
Eventually, Humphries agreed to move on as well, but he did not want a divorce. Instead, he wanted their marriage to be dissolved on the basis of fraud, claiming he was duped into it for the Kardashians’ TV show and sought $7 million.
However, he ended up dropping his petition and accepting a settlement instead. The judge finally dissolved their marriage in June 2013. The legal battle lasted 543 days, seven times longer than their marriage did.
