Joe Amabile, best known for his role in Bachelor Nation, is making headlines for a much more serious and scary reason this month. The reality TV personality revealed that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The diagnosis, which he never saw coming, has flipped his life upside down. Still, Amabile did share a positive update with fans just this week.

A routine scan turns into something serious

Amabile’s health scare started with what he expected to be a straightforward check-in on his overall health: a full-body Prenuvo scan. Prenuvo scans, a type of preventive MRI, have grown popular among influencers and TV personalities. Amabile expected a pretty clean bill of health, but the opposite happened. Instead, the scan turned up a lesion in his brain. Doctors then ordered a dedicated brain MRI for a closer look.

Sharing the news in an Instagram video, Amabile explained that the follow-up scan showed a blueberry-sized lesion that appeared to be a glioma. Gliomas are a type of tumor that develops from glial cells. According to the Mayo Clinic, gliomas vary in severity: some grow slowly and aren’t considered cancerous, while others are more aggressive. Common symptoms associated with brain tumors include headaches, nausea, memory issues, personality changes, and vision or speech problems. Amabile did not mention if he had been experiencing symptoms, but an update video on Instagram ahead of surgery showed him on a run, explaining that he was feeling good.

Once the lesion was detected, things moved quickly. Amabile was scheduled for a craniotomy to remove the tumor with just a couple of weeks’ notice. Doctors moved quickly to address the issue while it was still in its early stages.

Support from Serena Pitt and Bachelor Nation

Amabile’s wife, Serena Pitt, whom he met during his season of Bachelor in Paradise and married in 2022, has been by his side. She commented on his announcement, writing that they would “get through this together,” and later shared her own post acknowledging how “scary, overwhelming and heavy” the experience has felt at times. In the lead-up to his surgery, Pitt also turned to her own followers, asking for advice from anyone who had gone through brain surgery themselves or cared for a loved one recovering from one.

This week, Amabile underwent surgery, with Pitt by his side throughout. She shared updates about the procedure once he moved to recovery. The update revealed doctors were able to remove the entire tumor. It is still unclear what Amabile’s next steps will be, but for now, he is recovering.

Well wishes are pouring in.
