Hulu is doubling down on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. 

The streamer has ordered 20 new episodes of the hit reality series, according to a new report from Deadline. Those new episodes will make up seasons 6 and 7 of the show, which follows a group of TikTok influencer moms in Salt Lake City. Filming has already begun on the new episodes. 

Hulu moves forward with ‘SLOMW’ filming despite behind-the-scenes-drama

The renewal news comes as SLOMW has been grappling with major behind-the-scenes drama. Production on the yet-to-air season 5 was halted earlier this year following a domestic incident between cast member Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex, Dakota Mortensen. 

Filming eventually resumed on the show, but without Paul. The upcoming fifth season will have just five episodes, rather than the usual 10.

During an appearance on the August 5 episode of Hulu’s Get Real podcast, Laya Taylor spoke about the show’s future. 

“We’re not done with season 5, and we’re filming for season 6 right now,” she shared. 

The production schedule this year has been exhausting, Taylor added. But it was also necessary. 

“It’s so hard. We have this battle that we — all of us girls talk about,” she said. “When we’re not filming, I miss it. And I honestly get kind of bored and so much happens too conveniently when the cameras go down. So, it’s like at this point, just let’s just film the whole year.”

Paul’s personal drama has shaken up the world of SLOMW. After the incident between her and Mortensen, several cast members reportedly refused to film with her. 

Paul and Mortensen, who share a son, Ever, have had a tumultuous relationship. In 2023, she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault related to another incident with Mortensen. When footage of that fight leaked to the media, her upcoming season of The Bachelorette was promptly canceled. 

While Paul was not fired from SLOMW, she’ll have a very limited role in the truncated season 5, according to People. However, she has said on social media that she will appear in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 6. Meanwhile, one original cast member won’t be back. Whitney Leavitt has confirmed she’s leaving the show.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu.
