Two years after Brittany Cartwright filed for divorce, her separation from Jax Taylor is still not final. Proceedings between the former couple are dragging on, and both sides are blaming each other. Taylor’s lawyer claims that Cartwright is deliberately delaying by failing to provide the necessary financial documents.

Shortly after starring on the first season of Bravo’s The Valley, Cartwright filed for divorce from Taylor, her husband of five years. The show captured their tumultuous relationship, and the second season followed their even more chaotic separation. Two years later, they still haven’t finalized their split. 

Taylor’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, claims that this is Cartwright’s fault. He told TMZ that Cartwright hasn’t turned in documents required to move forward. Because of this, the couple can’t resolve their property and financial issues. He claimed that Taylor’s attempts to finalize the divorce are like “attempting to describe the sound of one hand clapping.”

Cartwright’s side, however, say that she is trying to reach a fair conclusion for their son. They add that Taylor’s time in rehab and unresolved financial problems have drawn out the process.

He admitted to owing years of unpaid taxes

In 2025, Cartwright opened up about the former couple’s financial problems during an episode of The Valley. Taylor signed the lease on a new condo, leaving Cartwright responsible for the mortgage payments on their shared home. He hadn’t made mortgage payments in several months. As both their names were on the mortgage, Cartwright worried this could leave her responsible. 

“If he hasn’t paid it since then, [the debt] could be up to, like, $100,000 by now,” she said, adding, “We’re done. There’s no Jax and Brittany anymore.”

Cartwright also said that Taylor went years without paying taxes.

“He just figures it’s just gonna go away,” she added. “My mortgage used to be around $8,000. I pay $18,000 now. Because of his taxes.”

This was his responsibility. Cartwright said that she paid a comparable amount in utilities, doctors’ bills, flights, groceries, and their son Cruz’s clothes and toys.

The complicated dynamic between Cartwright and Taylor hit a further snarl when he went public with his new relationship. Taylor is dating Lori Krebs, his and Cartwright’s publicist. 

“I’m shaking,” Cartwright told People. “I mean, this person was not only my publicist, she was like a sister to me for 10 years. It’s just complete, complete betrayal.”

She said that Krebs supported her through her relationship with Taylor.

“I mean, we’ve been to Mexico, the Bahamas, you name it,” Cartwright said. “She helped plan my [2019] wedding [to Jax].”

She was also there during their tumultuous separation. Cartwright said Krebs was there for her through the most difficult moments of her divorce, including a time when Taylor “almost broke” both her legs

“She was here holding me, seeing how shaken up my son was,” she said. “I mean, this person guided me through my horrible divorce, guided me through all the Airbnbs I was living in [after Jax and I split] and would come to my house and let me cry on her shoulders after I had been physically, emotionally and financially abused by this man. She knows every in and out of everything in my life and still chose to sleep with the enemy, basically.”
