It’s officially fall again. For some TV fans, that means it’s time to rewatch Gilmore Girls. Each year, fans return to Stars Hollow to herald in another season, and with each new rewatch come new questions. Have you ever thought about whether Lauren Graham shares the same coffee order as her iconic character, Lorelai Gilmore? While Graham is just as big a fan of coffee as Lorelai, her order is markedly different from the one her on-screen persona ordered.

How did Lorelai Gilmore take her coffee?

Gilmore Girls might have been about the relationship between a mother and daughter at its core, but coffee played an important role in the series, too. Lorelai drank cups upon cups of it each morning, and had more than one meltdown when her caffeinated love wasn’t available. While she might have flirted with a mochachino a time or two, her traditional coffee order was pretty simple.

Most of the time, Lorelai Gilmore took her coffee black, avoiding cream and sugar. Her daughter Rory Gilmore did the same most of the time, though she could be compelled to get a little fancy after moving to Yale for school. Every so often, Lorelai did fancy up her drink. During times of stress, like while she was opening the Dragonfly Inn, she opted for “lots of sugar and a little cream because it makes it cold.”

Lauren Graham’s coffee order isn’t as low-key

While Lauren Graham has long suggested Lorelai Gilmore is the one role she played that remains close to her heart, she isn’t just like the teen-mom-turned-business owner. Her coffee order differs substantially. In fact, Graham has insisted she has an entire “routine” that she completes in the morning to brew the perfect cup, and she’s not drinking it black like her on-screen persona.

Speaking with Parade and in a widely shared Instagram video walking fans through her process, Graham detailed a routine she jokingly calls her “coffee show.” She starts with a Philips automatic espresso machine. For beans, she relies on recommendations from what she calls her “three influencers”: Wirecutter, The Strategist, and chef Ina Garten.

From there, the order gets considerably more elaborate than anything Lorelai Gilmore ever ordered from Luke. Graham adds a generous pour of So Delicious dairy-free French vanilla coconut creamer. She does bring some dairy back into the mix, though, with whipped cream from a can, followed by a sprinkle of cinnamon on top and a sugar cube dropped in for good measure. Sometimes, when she’s feeling festive in the fall, she changes up her flavor options, though pumpkin spice is not her go-to fall flavor. Graham skips the fall flavors entirely and jumps directly to peppermint mocha, which most people consider a winter indulgence instead of a fall favorite.

Her breakfast order is different, too

Lauren Graham diverges from Lorelai Gilmore in another key way; she does not eat like the on-screen mom and her daughter. While Lorelai opted for breakfasts that included things like Pop-Tarts and bacon, Graham keeps it decidedly healthier.

Graham’s breakfasts consist of green juice, poached eggs, and vitamins. Candy, popcorn, and pizza don’t find their way into Graham’s diet as often as they found their way into Lorelai’s, but Graham does have a snack food obsession. She prefers potato chips.
