Jalen Brunson Will Cap a Wildly Successful 2026 With His Acting Debut
Jalen Brunson has already had the kind of year most athletes never get. He started 2026 dominating the court with the New York Knicks, culminating in a truly magical championship win. Now he’s adding a new line to the resume: Brunson is getting an acting credit. He is set to appear on Law & Order: SVU.
Jalen Brunson’s ‘SVU’ guest spot is officially happening
NBC has confirmed that the basketball star will take on a guest role in Season 28 of the long-running procedural. The guest role appears to be the fruits of active manifestation. Brunson mentioned the show in an interview following the Knicks’ Game 5 win.
During a post-game interview, Brunson was asked what he planned to do with his offseason. His answer: he’d “try to get on ‘SVU.'” It was the kind of joking remark that could have easily gone nowhere. Instead, things moved quickly, with Mariska Hargitay appearing to take the reins to make sure Brunson ended up on the series.
Speaking to Variety in August, Hargitay addressed Brunson joining the cast for a cameo. She made it clear the appearance wasn’t hypothetical, saying it was “definitely happening,” and praising Brunson’s openness to the opportunity, adding that she doesn’t think there’s much he can’t do.
Details about the role itself remain heavily guarded. It’s still unclear whether Brunson will appear as a fictionalized version of himself, a police officer investigating one of the show’s “vicious felonies,” or an entirely different character. The season premieres October 8, and Brunson’s episode is set to air November 5.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ isn’t his only upcoming TV appearance
While Law & Order: SVU will serve as Jalen Brunson’s first true acting role, it won’t be his first appearance on TV outside of basketball. On September 13, Brunson appeared in a pre-taped segment opening the 2026 Emmy Awards. Hargitay hosted the awards ceremony. His pre-recorded appearance delighted fans.
On September 26, just weeks before his procedural debut, Brunson hosted the Season 52 premiere of Saturday Night Live alongside musical guest KATSEYE. Adding SNL host to his resume is pretty unique: he’s the first active NBA player in nearly 20 years to host the show. Other famous NBA stars given hosting duties include Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, the last player to host, taking the stage on September 29, 2007.
Between the Emmy cameo, the SNL debut, and the SVU role still to come, Brunson is expanding his empire and sharing his many talents with the world. Knicks fans love to see it, as long as he is back to heating up the court when the next season starts in October.
