Jay-Z Reportedly Picks Himself to Headline Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show
Rumor has it that the man behind the Super Bowl halftime show for the past seven years will be the one headlining it this time around. According to new reports, Jay-Z has tapped himself as the main act for one of the most-watched events on television. The decision might not come as a big surprise to some fans, many of whom were betting on the rap legend to take center stage in February.
Sources Claim Jay-Z Was an Inevitable Pick for the Super Bowl Halftime Show
According to sources cited by Puck, Jay-Z’s selection has “long felt inevitable and more compelling than Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, both of whom were considered.” TMZ reported that Harry Styles was also in the running at one point.

The odds had been pointing his way for weeks. Jay-Z led the odds to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show at 51 percent on the prediction market Kalshi, ahead of Bieber and Cyrus, even though the rapper has never headlined the show, opting instead to work behind the scenes.
Jay-Z Makes Perfect Sense as the Pick
The news lands at the perfect time. Hov is riding a career resurgence. He’s currently on his JAŸ-Z30 Tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut studio album, “Reasonable Doubt,” and the 25th anniversary of “The Blueprint,” with shows in New York, London and Paris.
The tour wraps with two shows at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 23 and 24; the same stadium that will host Super Bowl LXI on Feb. 14, 2027. Puck reported that he could use those concerts to announce the booking. The timing also gives Jay-Z a few months to rest and plan his first appearance as a Super Bowl headliner.
The gig would also help cement his legacy. The halftime shows his company, Roc Nation, has produced have been some of the most successful and most controversial in the event’s history. He’s the man who brought acts such as Usher, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and, most recently, Bad Bunny to the main stage. Lamar’s 2025 set remains the most-watched halftime show in U.S. history, while Bad Bunny’s 2026 performance was among the most controversial.
He’s Been Setting the Stage
While some NFL fans might be surprised by the news, Jay-Z has spoken about one day taking the stage himself. In January 2024, just ahead of Usher’s set, he told Entertainment Tonight that picking himself too early would have felt a little selfish. Still, he never ruled it out, adding that “maybe one year” he would be the one headlining the show. Nearly three years later, it looks like he just might be.
Still, nothing is official yet. Neither the NFL, Roc Nation, nor Jay-Z’s representatives have confirmed the report. Each year, rumors about headliners swirl ahead of the official announcement, and they don’t always pan out. Last year, chatter suggested Taylor Swift might take the stage after her engagement to Travis Kelce. That didn’t happen, and Swift has still never headlined the show.
