Teyana Taylor was one of the many celebs who stepped out to attend the 2026 Academy Museum Gala.

There were plenty of glamorous and interesting carpet looks from superstars like Charlize Theron, Sabrina Carpenter, Hailey Bieber, and Kim Kardashian for the Oct. 17 event. But it was Taylor’s look that really turned heads and got people talking.

The “One Battle After Another” actress wore a strapless baby blue Schiaparelli gown with a glossy, silicone-molded breastplate and a sheer floral skirt from the French luxury fashion house’s Look 28 Fall/Winter 2026 Couture collection. To go with her outfit, she donned Christian Louboutin pumps, stud earrings, a tousled pixie cut, and smoky eyes.

While the dress is a work of art and was praised by many, not everyone is a fan.

“She’s hot, but something is off about the dress,” one person wrote.

Another commented, “One word: Hideous,” while another added, “Yikes. Not feeling g the popcorn dress.”

“Awful, really awful,” a fourth person said. And a fifth posted, “Is this a Halloween party? Ridiculous.”

Others chimed in that they were just tired of the look, saying, “The Schiaparelli era needs to end,” and “I have seen this dress… several times… on other people,” and “A lot of people are wearing this these days, and it’s horses***!”

Another star who was seen wearing a Schiaparelli number to a high-profile event was Zendaya.

She wore a similar gown from the same collection to The Odyssey premiere in London in July. Zendaya’s dress had a white glazed silicone breastplate that gave the illusion of carved marble with a fringe skirt.

So while some labeled this as copying a fellow celebrity, these gowns are just really having a moment right now. Schiaparelli’s structured bodices/breastplates are a popular trend now, and the brand is becoming a favorite of Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé.

Other ladies have been rocking the looks for years. They include Lupita Nyong’o, who wore a silver, molded breastplate to the Tony Awards in 2023. Jennifer Lopez wore a half-breastplate to the Elle Women In Hollywood event she attended with then-husband Ben Affleck in 2023. But it is Zendaya who has donned the look even further back. The Euphoria star famously wore a Tom Ford breastplate to the Critics’ Choice Awards in 2020. At the time, the model admitted that she even had it framed in her house.
