Jay-Z Revealed Why He Feels ‘Nervous’ for Blue Ivy

Jay-Z always speaks highly of his eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. She has followed in her parents’ footsteps, frequently joining her mother, Beyoncé, onstage during her tours. Jay-Z said that Blue Ivy has earned her spot on the stage. This doesn’t stop him from feeling nervous whenever he sees her perform.

Blue Ivy joined Beyoncé onstage as a dancer for her Renaissance and Cowboy Carter tours. Jay-Z has been in the audience cheering her on, which he admitted isn’t always easy.

“I’m more nervous for her than I am for myself,” he told Extra. “Yeah, for sure.”

Still, he finds the effort she puts in to be inspiring. It pays off and comes through in her performances.

“But she put in the work, and she’s a student, and she loves it,” he said. “So, just to watch her find a way is just extraordinary as well.”

He also praised Beyoncé’s talent

When Jay-Z watches his daughter perform, he is also watching his wife. He said that she always impresses him.

“I’m super inspired by her,” he said. “I think she’s a phenomenal producer and writer.”

He said that she is more willing to put herself out there and try new things than he is.

“She’s fearless,” he said. “She tries all kinds of stuff. Some things she does, I’m like, ‘I couldn’t do that.’ She’ll be sitting in the back, like, hollering ad-libs and it’s just … I’ll get in the way of myself, I get too self-conscious about it. She’ll just try anything, anything.”

Jay-Z has worked with many artists over the years, but his wife stands out to him.

“You don’t have to keep it, but she tries things,” he said. “She’s very adventurous and her recall is amazing. She’s an amazing producer. I think because she’s such an extraordinary singer, people underrate the producer that she is. She’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

Jay-Z said Blue Ivy had to earn her spot on the stage

Blue Ivy has two incredibly famous parents, so she has had an easier path to stadium stages than many others. Still, Jay-Z said she earned her place alongside her mother. She worked hard to grow after her first performance.

“On the first tour there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn’t going for it,” he told GQ. “She still was going through the motions. And then she just started fighting back. I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life — like, not everything is just given to her and everything is easy. She fought for it.”

She improved so much that she began to join Beyoncé for nearly every number. Jay-Z only put his foot down for songs that he didn’t think were appropriate for a child.

“She’s almost on every number,” he said. “I had to take her off some, like, ‘Man, you can’t be on that stage when she’s singing ‘Six-inch heels…’; are you crazy?’”
