The threat of a lengthy and likely costly criminal trial has Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Caldwell, reevaluating some of their spending, it seems. While the couple discussed finances in a leaked jailhouse call weeks ago, they appear to have changed directions since Joseph was sprung from a Florida jail on a very hefty bail. The duo has officially listed one of their homes for sale. If they get their asking price, they’ll be well on their way to mounting a pretty expensive defense.

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell list their home weeks after their rift with the Caldwells went public

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell have listed their Arkansas home for sale for $407,900. Realtor broke the story. The house, while well-priced for high-cost-of-living areas, is somewhat more expensive than homes in the Arkansas neighborhood Joseph and his wife called home.

The house features several eye-catching details, though, including a spiral staircase, a chef’s kitchen, and a spacious primary suite. Joseph, a real estate agent by trade, and Kendra own more than one property. They were previously allowing Kendra’s parents to live in a home they owned, but the Caldwells have since vacated it amid Joseph’s arrest and a very public family feud. The home was just listed, so there are no buyers yet, but the couple is likely hoping the property will sell quickly. It seems they could use the cash.

Why are they selling now?

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell don’t just have legal troubles to attend to; it seems the couple also has some financial strife to consider as they navigate the justice system. The decision to sell their home appears to be the latest step in an ongoing effort to raise money. In a jailhouse phone call immediately after their legal drama began to unfold, Kendra revealed she had moved out of her house, and Joseph’s brothers were helping ready it to rent.

Kendra also discussed other items she planned to sell to help liquidate some of their assets, as they had legal drama to contend with. The conversation was an odd one, several Duggar family followers pointed out. The Duggar family, namely Jim Bob Duggar, is financially comfortable. The family patriarch and his longtime wife closed a land deal with Walmart worth millions, which led many family followers to assume Jim Bob would bankroll a defense for yet another wayward son. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though.

What charges is Joseph Duggar facing?

Joseph Duggar’s need for quick cash seems to be entirely tied to his March 18 arrest. On March 18, Joseph was taken into custody near his family’s Arkansas home and later charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12. The arrest stemmed from allegations that he abused a 9-year-old girl during a trip to Florida in 2020. The victim, now a teen, told her father about the incident recently. She also spoke with police in Tontitown, Arkansas.

Joseph was held for several days at the Washington County Detention Center, the same facility where his brother Josh Duggar was processed during his own child pornography arrest, before he was extradited to Florida to be charged. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. If convicted, Joseph could face more than a decade behind bars.

He has secured private counsel, and his father appeared in Florida at his arraignment to post bail. Beyond that, it is unclear how much financial backing he’s offering Joseph and his wife.
