Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell appear to be sticking together for the time being. The troubled former reality TV couple has a lot of legal trouble to overcome. While Kendra appears commited to sticking by Joseph, despite the prospect of him spending years behind bars, it appears the duo doesn’t fully trust each other, nor does Kendra trust anyone else. During one jailhouse call, Joseph lied directly to Kendra about the phone calls he made while behind bars, but quickly backpedaled. Now, Duggar family followers are left to wonder who the mysterious “Greg” Joseph spoke to is, and why Kendra is so set against her husband having a conversation with him.
Mistrust seems evident in a tense phone call between Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell
Recorded phone calls between Kendra Caldwell and Joseph Duggar are shedding new light on their complex dynamic. While several calls are loving and gentle, despite Joseph’s serious charges, others are a bit more forceful. In one call, a bit of tension even spilled over.
Kendra Caldwell wants her husband to keep his inner circle increasingly small during his legal tribulations. He didn’t initially stick to the plan and even attempted to lie to his wife. During one phone call with Kendra, Joseph initially suggested he had spoken to no one but his wife while behind bars. She quickly called him out, letting him know she was aware he had made another call.
Joseph relented quickly, telling Kendra that he had spoken to a man named Greg. Kendra seemed well aware of that already and was pretty unhappy about it. Based on her tone, it’s obvious Kendra doesn’t trust Greg, nor did she trust her husband to remain silent while behind bars. She advised him not to speak with the mysterious Greg or anyone else, for that matter, again.
While Joseph and Kendra had several phone calls during his stay at the Washington County Detention Center, the call regarding Greg struck family critics as a bit odd. Kendta seemed completely out of character. Gone was the bubbly, often flighty woman viewers met on Counting On. Kendra was more aggressive and assertive than she seemed capable of. Whether she uses her new found voice for good, however, remains to be seen.
So, who is Greg?
Kendra was adamant that her husband not speak to the mysterious “Greg” under any circumstances, but neither she nor Joseph elaborated on Greg’s identity. Initial reports claimed Joseph’s prison call log had him calling only Kendra and a management company of some sort. Presumably, he spoke to Greg during that call.
According to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the duo may have been discussing Gregory Payne, a defense attorney. Payne briefly appeared as part of Joshua Duggar’s defense team. According to several sources, Payne recused himself from the case rather early on. It is unclear why Joseph would opt to contact him, though. It is also unclear why Kendra Caldwell seems to dislike the man so much.
