Josh Duggar Quietly Returned to Court as Joseph Duggar’s Legal Drama Deepens
While most Duggar family critics are heavily focused on Joseph Duggar, Kendra Caldwell, and the legal drama unfolding around them, another Duggar-related legal issue is playing out just one state over. Josh Duggar was quietly back in court this week. As it turns out, the convicted pedophile is still trying to have his conviction overturned. Although he appeared in court, nothing has been decided.
Josh Duggar returns to court to appeal his conviction
While public attention remains on Joseph Duggar, Josh Duggar quietly appeared in court via video link this week. According to 4029 News, he appeared before a federal judge seeking either a new trial or to have his conviction vacated. The hearing marks yet another step in his ongoing effort to overturn the verdict.
In his most recent filing, the convicted felon argued that he did not receive a fair trial because his defense team was not allowed to present alleged evidence suggesting that an employee at his car lot had access to the computer and could have been responsible for the child sexual abuse material found on the device. Duggar also claimed in his appeal that the prosecution’s expert witness altered data and later committed perjury on the stand.
While a federal judge heard Duggar’s arguments, no decision has been made. Previous appeals raising similar claims have already been denied. Although Duggar is attempting to secure an early release from FCI Seagoville, he is currently scheduled to remain incarcerated until 2032, assuming nothing changes. He was convicted in 2021 of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material following an 18-month investigation into Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s eldest son.
This is not his first attempt to overturn the conviction
Josh Duggar is no stranger to appeals. He has been attempting to overturn his conviction since the day he was found guilty. Initially, a private defense team handled his appeals, but that changed more than a year ago. Over the past 12 months, he has tried to represent himself, requested a public defender, and, more recently, hired new legal counsel.
In March 2026, Duggar retained attorney Beau Brindley, who is known for working on R. Kelly’s post-conviction appeals. Meanwhile, Josh’s younger brother, Joseph Duggar, has hired a separate attorney to address a child molestation charge he recently faced in Florida. While the cases are very different, they have still led critics to question what was happening inside the Duggar family home.
