Joy-Anna Forsyth and her husband, Austin Forsyth, are finally sharing the news Duggar family followers have long suspected. They are growing their family again. The announcement brings to an end months of online speculation. Now, Joy-Anna is opening up about the reason for keeping the pregnancy under wraps. Family critics aren’t sure her admission is the only reason, though.

How the Announcement Came Together

Joy-Anna Forsyth and Austin Forsyth took to Instagram this week to share their big news. The former Counting On star shared a simple photo of Austin cradling her baby bump. The photo was accompanied by a more elaborate caption reading “Coming 2027!! So much joy, so much excitement, and so much love for this little one already. God knew we needed you.” A second slide showed the pair holding a sonogram while kissing.

Joy-Anna later revealed that for this particular announcement, they wanted something simple. They allowed their son, Gideon, and daughter, Evelyn, to act as the photographers for the photoshoot. While Joy-Anna didn’t share exactly when she’s due, Duggar family critics theorize that baby Forsyth will arrive early in 2027, which is now just a few months away.

The reveal landed on an eventful day for the extended Duggar family. Just hours earlier, word broke that Joy-Anna’s younger sister, 20-year-old Johannah Duggar, is engaged to David Swanson and has filed for a marriage license in Arkansas. The pair are planning an early October wedding. David is the younger brother of Lauren Swanson, who is married to Joy-Anna’s brother Josiah. Josiah and Lauren have been notoriously private since the end of Counting On.

Why did Joy-Anna and Austing Forsyth wait for the big reveal?

While Joy-Anna Forsyth still isn’t sharing just how far along in her pregnancy she is, the photos suggest she is heading steadily towards the finish line. The impromptu announcement has led to plenty of speculation about why the pair decided to wait. Joy-Anna attempted to address that in a follow-up post, thanking fans for the love they had sent her way since the announcement, and noting that hiding the pregnancy had been “challenging” because she felt like her baby bump had become more obvious earlier on with each subsequent pregnancy. Still, she said she enjoyed having time with just her family to soak in the news.

Her decision to wait isn’t all that uncommon in the family these days. The Duggars, who once announced pregnancies almost immediately, have taken a more cautious route since the end of Counting On. Some Duggars have opted to go completely private and not share any pregnancy updates or baby news. Still, Duggar family critics think there is a more troubling reason Joy-Anna and Austin decided to hold off.

Joy-Anna Forsyth and Austin Forsyth are growing their family. Johannah may be set to walk down the aisle. Both pieces of news are good for the Duggar family, but it hasn’t been all joyous for the supersized group this year. In March, Joy-Anna’s older brother, Joseph Duggar, shocked the world when he was arrested on child molestation charges. Days later, his wife, Kendra Duggar, was arrested on unrelated charges. The legal drama has made headlines and continues to play out while Joseph awaits trial.

The legal drama might be the reason Joy-Anna chose to delay her own pregnancy announcement, some fans suspect. While the Duggars once leaned into good news to overshadow bad news on social media, they have since changed the playbook. While Joy-Anna has neither confirmed nor denied that Joseph’s upcoming legal battle influenced her announcement plans, fans and followers continue to speculate.
